Job Description Summary

GE’s Power Conversion business, part of GE Vernova, provides electrification systems that are critical to customers’ power and energy needs for their high-performance applications. We work with some of the world’s major energy, maritime and industrial organizations, helping to enable a transition to energy efficiency and decarbonization through our specialist motors, drives and control technologies. As a member of the Engineering Team in a matrix environment, this role involves working on projects and initiatives with broad scope and high impact to the business and is a recognized expert in the area of Automation, Controls and Power Electronics. This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within the area of Controls and other advanced applications in power conversion. Will be part of a strong engineering team and provide the technical leadership to the entire team aligned with the North American region engineering team.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Recognized technical expert in the area of Power Electronics, Automation & Controls technology related to Power Generation, Distribution and Balance of plant applications including but not limited to systems engineering design/application SW for marine and other industrial applications

  • Lead Design and implementation of optimized control architectures that meet the product requirements, considering the existing components and future control platform evolution in the business

  • Support the business in creating and reviewing (in conjunction with the leadership team) systems solutions as part of the process, ensuring that solutions are technically fit for purpose and that technical risk is understood and managed with contingencies identified.

  • Review solutions developed by teams and identify opportunities for improvement of process, system, or equipment to prevent errors

  • Advance power systems engineering technical knowledge (both general and domain specific)

  • Liaise with other GE businesses, sub-contractors and suppliers as appropriate in order to support the proposals and the business

  • Provide technical advice and assistance to the overall team as appropriate including Commissioning and Service

  • Improve the efficiency of the engineering process, through development and use of standard engineering solutions

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in electrical engineering with concentration in power electronics, controls, or power systems.

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in an engineering role managing complex projects.

  • Experience with variable frequency drive design and manufacturing.

  • Working knowledge with printed circuit board design and testing

  • Embedded control experience.

  • Experience with IGBTs (silicon or silicon carbide based).

Desired Characteristics:

  • Advanced Degree (Master's/PhD) or equivalent in electrical engineering or related subject (power electronics, controls, or power systems).

  • Strong oral and written communication skills with conference/journal published experience

  • Previous experience working in system engineering design, application and testing.

  • Previous experience in Automation and power systems projects and new product initiatives.

  • Previous Experience in leading either Marine/O&G/Industry projects.

  • Experience of system integration working on multi-discipline projects

  • Demonstrated understanding of systems and controls fundamentals and working knowledge of Automation and controls as applied to marine applications

  • Experience with Real Time Simulators
