Position Summary
The Information Technology (IT) Scrum Master/Release Train Engineer (SM/RTE) is a key role responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of value within the IT organization. This role combines the responsibilities of a SM with the specialized duties of an RTE. The RTE serves as a servant leader and coach for the Agile Release Train (ART), facilitating ART events and processes, coaching and supporting teams in delivering value.
The SM/RTE in Midstream IT team will have persistent focus on relentless improvement for how MPC uses technology that enables our business. The SM/RTE will work closely with Midstream Product Owners, Managers, and product teams. The role will provide daily leadership for the team to ensure alignment of goals and plans, relieving impediments, and most importantly holding teams accountable for delivering commitments and value.
The SM/RTE provides transparency to Midstream value delivery through open communication with and between Product Owner, Product Manager, delivery team and other stakeholders. The SM/RTE will facilitate collaboration with other product teams, other portfolios, onsite teams, and non-product team members. The SM/RTE will ensure visibility of delivery progress, challenges, risks, and successes. The SM/RTE is responsible for supporting the organization's portfolios, products, programs, and structured work efforts whilst applying continuous improvement to advance portfolio maturity, increase predictability, and achieve Midstream and MPC goals.
The SM/RTE will advance the MPC agile journey by serving as a champion and change-lead for MPC agile transformation. The SM/RTE will coach, mentor and promote the use of agile principles, standards and best practices to teams, and teams of teams. In the enterprise, the SM/RTE will collaborate and contribute to Agile process maturity through the Agile Community of Practice.
A successful candidate will possess exceptional communication skills with particular emphasis on facilitating discussions and driving for consensus, often among the highly diverse participants and interests. A successful candidate must be able to gain trust and build confidence with all team members and senior leadership to establish effective collaboration.
This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. The actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications. Key Responsibilities
Establishes Agile practices (Scrum or Kanban) for multiple teams by creating optimal environments for development and collaboration. Facilitates PI Planning Events and PI Execution by maintaining feature progress and promote continuous delivery through DevOps. Schedules, communicates, and facilitates Pre-PI and Post-PI events to ensure consistent communication across business units.
Facilitates team and cross team events to proactively identify stakeholder opportunities and maintain open lines of communication. Proactively coaches and advises Product Owner and people leaders on team configuration and dynamics for optimal delivery, consistent portfolio management and agile behaviors within the teams.
Monitors project or iteration planning, including setting goals and objectives, defining roles and developing detailed timelines. Ensure business strategy and execution align by collaborating with Portfolio and Program Team.
Identifies obstacles and impediments or enables the team to remove impediments. Seeks innovative ways to bring out more predictable planning outcomes and goal development in team settings.
Implements team processes, automation, etc. that improves adherence to governance, controls and best practices in Agile delivery or DevSecOps.
Identifies critical team stakeholders, and proactively finds opportunities for them to engage in small and large team events.
Coaches Product Owners and others toward advanced Story and Feature development, including behavior-driven development concepts; story mapping, definitions of done and automation, as appropriate.
Drives Agile Methodology, including iteration planning, refinements, retrospectives, and daily standups for a team or team-of teams.
Adopts and implements Agile mindsets and practices, develops education for the organization on Agile best practices.
Coordinates with Scrum Masters to facilitate PI Execution including System Demos and Inspect & Adapt sessions.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in information systems, related field or equivalent work experience.
5+ years of relevant experience required.
5+ years of relevant RTE experience required.
5+ years of relevant SM experience preferred.
SAFe Scrum Master Certification or equivalent preferred.
SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) Certification preferred.

Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) - A process used by the software industry to design, develop and test high quality software’s.
Team Management - Ability to organize, gain the involvement of, and manage diverse work groups and/or task forces to accomplish specific project or unit goals.
Workflow Optimization - The process of improving an existing workflow, by reducing operating costs or improving the efficiency of work done.
