Lee County Government BOCC Solid Waste Operations Technician (Compost Operations) in Felda, Florida
Lee County is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity within our Solid Waste Department! The Solid Waste Operations Technician is responsible for learning and performing the operations and maintenance for designated Solid Waste facilities. Based on the specific position, the candidate chosen for this position will operate a full range of heavy and light equipment as needed. The incumbent will perform any combination of duties; including compost process operations, landfill maintenance tasks, daily housekeeping tasks, sampling and monitoring, cleaning and inspecting equipment daily, facility and light equipment maintenance, pump and controls maintenance, and other duties as required.
The ideal candidate for this position will have versatile equipment handling abilities, light maintenance and mechanical skills, excellent customer service skills, the ability to work alone and stay on task, and be very dependable.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates a full range of heavy and light equipment as needed such as powered screen, windrow turner, skid steer, and front-end loader.
- Performs compost process operations including but not limited to handling and mixing materials, loading trucks and hoppers, and constructing compost windrows.
- Duties include receiving inbound loads of mulch, biosolids, and other materials, mixing and constructing windrows, performing daily process monitoring, and completing daily logs.
- Performs daily housekeeping tasks, cleans and inspects equipment daily, performs facility and light equipment maintenance tasks, and other duties as required.
- Serves as backup and performs operational duties at other solid waste facilities as needed.
Education, Experience, Licensing
- Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and one year equipment operation, facility/equipment maintenance, or closely related experience.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
Supplemental Information
- Must have the ability to lift up to 100 lbs, stand, crawl, sit, or kneel at various times throughout the day and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Heavy construction equipment experience preferred.
- The work schedule for this position will vary based on specific job tasks assigned and may require earlier/later shift start and/or shift end times including weekends and holidays as needed. May be required to work additional hours during emergencies.
