Experienced commercial General Contractor/Design Build firm in SE Michigan actively seeking aDirector of Business Developmentto help foster new relationships and deliver new opportunities as the organization continues to grow. The Director – Business Development, Construction, will be responsible for identifying, nurturing, and securing new business opportunities to drive growth and profitability for the firm. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of the construction industry, exceptional networking skills, and a proven track record in business development. Our firm has established a reputation for delivering exceptional results for our clients using our proven Integrated Project Delivery model.  This platform features all facets of space planning, design, architecture, estimating, and project management under one roof, allowing us to coordinate and deliver exceptional results.  We are looking for a dynamic and experienced business development leader with a strong background in construction to join the team.

Project Types Include:

  • Office (including Medical), Industrial, and Retail interior buildouts and renovations

  • Ground up construction for Office, Retail, Industrial, and Multifamily

  • Office to Residential Conversions

  • Specialty renovations (amenity centers, lobbies, fitness facilities, showrooms, automotive testing labs, and more)

    Responsibilities:

  • Along with our Leadership Team, develop and implement a comprehensive business development strategy to achieve company growth targets. 

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities in the construction sector, including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, partnerships, and services.  These include, but are not limited to, healthcare organizations, Tier 1 automotive suppliers, property owners and developers, and other large corporate owners, users, and occupiers of commercial buildings .

  • Prepare and deliver presentations and proposals to potential clients, showcasing the company's capabilities and competitive advantages.

  • Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends and competitor activities.

  • Collaborate with other team members as part of our IPD process to ensure Client Success on every project.

  • Negotiate contracts and agreements with clients, ensuring favorable terms for the company.

  • Monitor and report on business development activities, including pipeline progress, with oversight by division leadership.

  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking functions to enhance our brand awareness and reputation.

  • Provide input into marketing strategies and campaigns to support business development efforts.

  • Lead the development of responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Requests for Qualifications (RFQs). Coordinate with the IPD estimating and project management teams to prepare competitive and compelling bids.

  • Oversee the creation of proposal documents, ensuring they are accurate, professionally presented, and aligned with client requirements.

  • Work closely with project management, estimating, and operations teams to ensure alignment on project pursuits and client expectations.

  • Maintain and nurture long-term relationships with clients.

  • Local travel required throughout, primarily throughout SE Michigan, and potentially through west Michigan and Mid-Michigan .

    Qualifications:

  • 7-10 years of experience in business development, preferably within the commercial construction or general contracting industry.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Construction Management, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strategic thinker with a proactive approach. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Highly driven and motivated to source, win, and close opportunities with new clients.
