The Director of Student Accounts is a key leadership position within the Division of Finance and Administration at Farmingdale State College, part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Finance and Controller, this position is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Student Accounts Office, ensuring accurate and timely management of all student billing, payment, and account-related activities. The Director will provide strategic guidance, implement best practices, and ensure compliance with institutional, SUNY system, state, and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership:

  • Oversee all functions of the Student Accounts Office, including billing, payments, refunds, collections, banking, and reconciliation.

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the efficient, accurate, and compliant management of student accounts.

  • Monitor and enforce internal controls to protect institutional assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.

Strategic Planning and Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with the Finance Office and IT Team on strategic initiatives to enhance service delivery and streamline processes.

  • Work closely with campus offices such as Financial Aid, Registrar, Admissions, and the SUNY system to coordinate policies and initiatives related to student accounts.

  • Provide data-driven recommendations to enhance student satisfaction and financial efficiency.

Integrated Data Management Information System Expertise:

  • Utilize advanced knowledge of the Banner Student Information System and E-commerce software, such as TouchNet, to manage student account operations.

  • Lead system configurations, upgrades, and testing to align with institutional goals and regulatory requirements.

  • Serve as a resource for troubleshooting system issues and ensuring optimal use of Banner functionality.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and SUNY regulations, including Title IV financial aid disbursements, FERPA, and tax reporting requirements.

  • Prepare and present financial reports, analyses, and projections for institutional leadership and external stakeholders.

  • Manage the preparation and submission of required regulatory and audit documentation.

Leadership and Development:

  • Supervise and mentor Student Accounts Office staff, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, customer service, and professional growth.

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide training opportunities to enhance team skills.

  • Promote a student-centered approach while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

This title is in Appendix A of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees and, as a consequence, incumbents serving in this title are not eligible for permanent appointment (tenure), but instead receive renewable term appointments.

    Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field.

  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in student accounts, bursar, or related financial operations in higher education with at least two years in a supervisory role.

  • Advanced knowledge and extensive experience with the Banner Student Information System.

  • Strong understanding of federal and state regulations related to student accounts and higher education finance.

  • Proven ability to lead and develop a team in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.

  • Experience in resolution of complaints and disputes; demonstrated ability to balance adherence to policies with a need to support student success.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, policies, procedures and standards in cash management and accounts receivable.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse campus constituencies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree.

  • Experience working at a College within the SUNY system.

    Additional Information:

This is a full-time UUP position.

  • For the first 10 working days, beginning Friday, January 17, 2025, and ending Thursday, January 30, 2025, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.

  • CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS: Saturday, February 15, 2025

  • SALARY: $100,000 + $3,400 in downstate location pay = $103,400 Total Compensation. Salary may increase commensurate with experience.
