Job Summary

Provide leadership and management for a specific service area of Sterile Processing to ensure quality, cost effective healthcare services according to Sanford Health policies and standards. Assists the director with the human, fiscal, clinical, operational and quality management of the department. Provides a source of support/counseling for the staff, managers and supervisors. Acts as a resource person to assist all areas. Accountable to the department so as to provide an environment for the development of new colleagues and students. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Fiscally responsible. Controls variances and duplication. Ability to facilitate groups and implement projects. Is responsible for time and attendance, staff reviews, staff counseling, interviewing and hiring of staff. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements and accrediting agency standards (Joint Commission, Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Assists in development, implementation and support of administrative and departmental standard operating procedures.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelor’s degree in business or health related field is preferred.

Five years sterile processing department (SPD) experience preferred. Must have strong leadership, management and organization skills; verbal and written communication skills; the ability to effectively plan and adapt quickly to system changes. Managerial experience preferred.

Extensive knowledge of decontamination, sterilization and packaging processes and procedures to include knowledge of blood borne pathogens preferred. Knowledge of quality and infection control procedures and policies, medical terminology and government regulations are also preferred.

Certified Registered Central Service Technician certification preferred. If not certified, market leadership will determine agreed upon time frame to obtain certification based on eligibility and needs of the department. Additional Sterile Processing Certifications, such as Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS), and Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) preferred.
