NDSU Foundation Human Resources Generalist (HR Generalist) in Fargo, North Dakota

Position Summary: The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for working closely with the Director of HR to provide support to the overall coordination of our people functions including recruitment, benefits, performance appraisals, training and development, compliance, safety, and wellness. This individual will cultivate relationships and will develop inclusive, innovative, compliant, and effective practices. The Generalist serves as a cultural steward for the organization, ensuring the best overall employment experience for staff at every level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Talent Management

  1. Participate in the recruitment of staff
    1. Promote position postings using various channels
    2. Assist in the sourcing of applicants as needed
    3. Manage online applicant tracking system; screen and distribute applicant materials
    4. Arrange and schedule interviews
    5. Respond to applicant inquiries
    6. Promptly disposition candidates to next steps
  2. Assist in selection of new staff
    1. Partner with hiring managers to conduct initial interviews
    2. Offer input and observations of candidates
    3. Ensure consistent documentation of discussions
  3. Conduct onboarding processes including scheduling internal/external meetings, training, and ensuring new hire paperwork has been completed accurately and timely
  4. Manage off boarding processes for exiting employees
  5. Track recruitment, retention, and employee development metrics

Compensation and Benefits

  1. Administer the annual benefits enrollment process
  2. Understand and advise the consistent application of timekeeping and payroll rules
  3. Review payroll reports, monitor for compliance and trends, identify opportunities for training
  4. Work in conjunction with accounting staff to reconcile benefits and payroll statements
  5. Create and distribute annual totalcompensation statements
  6. Provide education to new and existing employees on available benefits and eligibility

Staff Performance Evaluation

  1. Coordinate the processing of staff performance evaluations and annual goal setting
  2. Monitor documents for compliance and timely submission
  3. Coach supervisors in developing and conducting effective reviews
  4. Conduct training as needed

Employee Relations

  1. Respond promptly and accurately to general benefit and policy inquiries
  2. Function as an admin super user within the companys HRIS
  3. Create and maintain a program for staff recognition and celebration
  4. Listen to, advise, and coach employees and supervisors on addressing minor issues in the workplace
  5. Escalate issues to leadership when applicable
  6. Support initiatives and offer input to optimize staff satisfaction and retention
  7. Chair the Employee Engagement Committee and actively participate in all available staff engagement opportunities

Training and Development

  1. Develop, plan, enhance and facilitate a best-in-class new employee orientation and onboarding experience
  2. Develop, update, and maintain training materials as needed
  3. Source, monitor and track professional development opportunities for staff
  4. Develop and present annual training programs to staff (i.e. supervisor/manager training, sexual harassment training, safety training, etc.)

Compliance and Employment Law

  1. Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local laws
  2. Assist in the development of personnel policies and procedures which support the needs of the organization and promote an engaging workplace
  3. Maintain records including personnel files and reports in compliance with federal and state regulations

Other

  1. Nurture and foster an environment supportive and upholding of the organizational mission and beliefs
  2. Maintain neutrality, objectivity, and approachability with all staff
  3. Keeps supervisor informed through sharing of observations and suggestion
  4. Other duties as assigned
