Role Summary
Based within the Engineering Team here at Parker Meggitt, Fareham, we are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer or Project Engineer to join our team designing and developing Avionics products and robust Engine sensors. In this site-based role you’ll develop and implement structured engineering solutions to meet project and programme requirements across the whole product development lifecycle in accordance with customer requirements, legislation, human factors and business needs. You’ll be responsible for the control of your own work, and that of any allocated resources to meet agreed technical, quality, cost and schedule requirements.
Core Responsibilities
Working with internal and external Aerospace customers, suppliers and engineering colleagues in Mechanical, Systems and Hardware disciplines, both on site and in the wider Parker Meggitt group
Managing formal requirements allocated to the Mechanical Engineering team through system design or directly from customers, validating requirements per standards, demonstrating compliance by design description and verifying implementation through verification methods (test, inspect, analysis, etc.)
Compiling work estimates and plans in support of project managers, as well as proactively tracking progress and updating plans as developments progress
Working adeptly within cross-functional teams across the business to drive NPI projects, product improvement or supporting Operational need and leading by example, motivating and supporting colleagues as a mechanical subject matter expert.
Assisting with the development of apprentices, undergraduate interns, graduate engineers and non-senior engineers to improve capability and capacity, working in accordance with company High Performance System
Actively contributing to departmental continuous improvement, leading mechanical process improvements, including tools and ways of working to improve departmental efficiency within the confines of industry regulations
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Essential
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Design or Aerospace Engineering, similar, or qualified by similar experience
Experienced in leading teams of mechanical engineers, motivating and coordinating their efforts to deliver compliant designs on time
Excellent written communication and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical colleagues not familiar with the subject matter, with the ability to clearly convey problem statements and technical solutions to senior management
Ability to compile information and prepare reports drawing technical conclusions to make data-driven decisions and achieve high quality outcomes
Proficient 3D modelling and 2D draughting competence with GD&T expertise, ideally using Solidworks or AutoCAD Inventor - wider awareness of other packages is beneficial
Comprehensive understanding of configuration control and change management with working knowledge of configuration management systems (e.g. data vaults) for design development and production
Demonstrable experience with Finite Element Analysis, with fundamental understanding of the technology and its limitations / advantages
Confident and able to work independently and prioritise duties with minimal supervision, in order to meet deadlines
Experienced in the development and use of Design FMEAs
Desirable
Experience developing models and validating them with real world data
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) FEA experience advantageous but not required
Experienced in working with large datasets (possibly in MathCAD, Minitab or Python) advantageous
Knowledge of PPAP approach and documentation
