The City of Fairmount is seeking a City Maintenance Technician:

The individual in this job performs a wide variety of public services that include direct support to the superintendent, the Auditor. The individual takes direction and gets daily tasks directly from the Mayor. This job description is not a contract and is subject to change.

The following are essential functions and general responsibilities to assist the superintendent including but not limited to:

YEAR ROUND

  • Read water meters
  • Meter repairs and change outs
  • Equipment repairs
  • Monitor lagoons
  • Prepare monthly reports

SPRING

  • Snow removal as needed
  • Open storm sewer grates
  • Check storm sewer lift stations
  • Sewer and hydrant flushes
  • Transfer lagoons
  • Surface gravel roads and alleys
  • Monitor lagoons for discharge
  • Mow road ditches

SUMMER

  • Mow city lots, lagoon roads, dikes
  • Maintain gravel roads
  • Oil changes

FALL

  • Sewer and hydrant flushes
  • Maintain gravel roads
  • Mow city lots, lagoon roads, dikes
  • Sweep city wide
  • Ready snow equipment
  • Winterize and put all summer equipment in shed
  • Put up Christmas decor
  • Get storm lift stations ready for winter
  • Snow removal

WINTER

  • Snow removal
  • Annual service work on all summer equipment
  • Take down Christmas decor

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • High School graduate
  • Equipment operation

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply common sense and understanding carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving request for service.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Current state driver's license

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
