Position: Graduate Assistant, Athletic Operations

Compensation: $12,000 annual stipend plus 18 credits per academic year

Reports to: Coordinator of Operations, Mahoney Arena & Athletics Facilities/Events

Fairfield University’s Department of Athletics currently seeks a dynamic individual to serve as Graduate Assistant for Athletic Operations (Event Management). Successful candidates will work in collaboration with other Graduate Assistants, student workers and other members of the Fairfield Athletic Department under the direction of the Associate Director of Athletics and Coordinator of Operations.

Description:

The Graduate Assistant for Athletic Operations helps to provide a safe, organized and professional game experience at all athletic and special events for fans, student-athletes, game officials and the Fairfield community. The duties for this position within the Fairfield Athletic Department include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist the department of athletics with event management for Fairfield Stags sporting events and special functions.

  • Responsible to work and lead game day operations for various sports, and includes oversight of game operations student workers.

  • Serve as athletic event staff during certain athletic events. • Assist in executing various game day responsibilities at the direction of the Associate Director of Athletics and/or Coordinator of Operations.

  • Assist in the setup and break down of athletic and special events.

  • Assist with facility management, athletic administration and office responsibilities as requested.

  • Provide support for external events, development and fundraising activities.

  • Assist with in-game, event promotions and community engagement set-up and breakdown.

  • Provide excellent customer service and a positive environment to all fans, teams, and officials at athletic and special events. • Ensure a safe, organized and professional experience at all times for coaches, athletes, staff, and fans.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Athletics or Coordinator of Operations.

Qualifications:

  • Admission to Fairfield University. Graduate school application may occur at the same time as applying for the position.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.

  • Criminal background check • Ability to work any days and/or shifts needed, including nights and weekends as scheduled.

  • Computer competency

  • Driver’s license

  • Must be able to work both outside and inside events and tolerate variable weather conditions.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and solve problems as necessary and work well under pressure and in a fast paced environment

  • Applicants must be personable, reliable, have great communication skills, and have high levels of integrity and professionalism in both behavior and appearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional interest in pursuing a career in intercollegiate athletics.

  • Ability to take initiative and ownership of athletic and special events.
