Senior Systems Engineer - Propulsion (Onsite)

Collins Aerospace in Fairfield, CA, is seeking a Systems/Test Engineer responsible for developing new energetic products, adaptive engineering of existing energetic product lines, sustaining current energetic product lines, and providing requirements and testing support within the Propulsions site. The Systems Engineer will be involved in all phases of the product life, including proposal preparation, brainstorming sessions, design, supplier support, manufacturing support, non-conforming material analysis, qualification testing, failure investigations, and sustaining activities. This will involve working cross functionally with engineering, program management, operations, and other functional groups throughout all phases of projects.

Our facility manufactures and tests explosive, propellant, and cartridge-actuated devices. This position will work onsite in Fairfield, CA.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Utilize robust Systems Engineering practices in support of projects assigned.

  • Evaluate external and internal customer needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters, and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.

  • Support the development and flow down of system requirements, ensuring that specifications sent to vendors conform to the system specifications

  • Perform requirements decomposition form system level requirements to subsystem.

  • Perform requirements traceability at multiple levels of the system specification tree to ensure that any orphan and childless requirements are identified and resolved

  • Complete requirements collection, including developing them and managing them, along with the creation of the Requirements Compliance Matrix and the Requirements Verification Matrix.

  • Review Request for Quotes from customers to evaluate the feasibility, ensure all requirements are managed by Qual by Similarity (QBS), Analysis or Testing, and scope of effort is bid.

  • Participate in brainstorming efforts for part design and/or new specification conditions and provide feedback and guidance on requirements impact and testing needs.

  • Manage requirements on all phases of the product life cycle using a compliance matrix or similar requirements management tool.

  • Help review and provide requirements guidance on development and production hardware to determine spec vs. actual conditions.

  • Help with designing, modeling, and analyzing system/customer requirements.

  • Lead and develop testing methods to qualify design and verify the customer and internal requirements.

  • Communicate with customers to provide technical information, engineering recommendations, action plans, and risk assessments.

  • Lead or participate in failure investigations, creating fault trees, creating requirements-based actions, and quickly determining root causes to implement corrective action.

  • Work with Project/Program Management to ensure all project milestones are achieved within identified and documented time, budget, and performance expectations for multiple projects.

  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis utilizing Raytheon Technologies Best Practices

  • Support other engineering and project execution activities, as requested. Assist in department development by contributing to systems engineering process development and cross team training.

  • The position requires strong interpersonal skills, high degree of comfort with ambiguity, good project discipline, excellent oral and written communication skills, high computer/technology proficiency, and the ability to work independently.

  • Interaction with customers, suppliers, and regulatory authorities is routinely required.

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

The salary range for this role is 85,000 USD - 179,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
