Aerotek Field Mechanic in Fairfield, California

Job Title: Field Mechanic

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Field Mechanic to join our team. This full-time position operates Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, servicing in and around the Alameda County area. The role requires a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). As a Field Mechanic, you will be responsible for traveling around the Bay Area to service and repair various commercial vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Service and repair commercial vehicles including sewer and storm cleaning vehicles, hydro vacuum excavators, street sweepers, bucket trucks, and 3/4 ton trucks with trailers.

  • Diagnose and repair pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical issues.

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on Crown Forklifts is preferred experienced but not a must have.

  • Lift up to 50 lbs throughout the shift.

  • Travel to customer locations for on-site repairs as needed.

  • Conduct electrical diagnostics on systems including batteries, alternators, relays, and switches, with voltage up to 24V.

  • Operate and interpret Can-buss systems/networks.

  • Utilize knowledge of compressed air systems and hydraulic applications.

  • Work on rigging equipment.

  • Use a laptop to view vehicle schematics.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on heavy equipment.

  • Utilize hand and power tools for various repair tasks.

Essential Skills

  • 3 years of experience with construction or heavy diesel equipment involving hydraulics, electrical, and pneumatic systems.

  • Ability to read and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics.

  • Possess a complete toolset required for service.

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

  • Proficiency in troubleshooting machine breakdowns with computer diagnostic equipment.

  • Experience in inspecting vehicles and equipment for wear, damage, or other performance-affecting issues.

  • Capability to perform factory-recommended preventive maintenance and inspections.

  • Skill in creating clear parts requisitions and documenting service work orders.

  • Excellent attendance and punctuality.

  • Strong communication skills for interactions with internal and external customers.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.

  • Comfortable being 100% mobile and not stationary.

  • Forklift mechanics experience is beneficial.

  • Truck mechanics and heavy equipment mechanics are encouraged to apply.

  • Automotive body shop experience is not applicable.

Work Environment

This position starts from home each day and involves working with a variety of machines, ranging from 1 to 20 years old. The team includes five mechanics, with plans to add two more. The standard work week is 40 hours, with occasional Saturday work or extended hours due to travel. The dress code includes uniforms and coveralls supplied by Cintas, with steel-toed boots required from day one. Boots are provided annually. Candidates will complete a series of online classes to receive certificates of completion.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Fairfield, California.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $72000.00 - $79000.00
