Summary

HII-Mission Technologies is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Business Development to drive strategic growth within the U.S. Army market.

The successful candidate will lead long-term strategic campaigns to achieve growth objectives, focusing on targeted customers within the U.S. Army. This role requires a deep understanding of defense budget line items, acquisition processes, key influencers, technology trends, and spending forecasts to identify, qualify, and capture specific opportunities. The ideal candidate will build and nurture critical relationships that significantly impact the long-term growth of Mission Technologies.

This position offers flexibility to work remotely or on a hybrid schedule. The role reports directly to the Mission Technologies Chief Growth Officer.

What you will do

  • Develop and implement long-term strategic business development campaigns targeting U.S. Army customers, identifying opportunities aligned with Mission Technologies’ portfolio and growth strategy.

  • Conduct thorough and well-informed opportunity assessments, including business case analysis and competitive positioning, based on customer needs and Mission Technologies’ portfolio and capabilities.

  • Prepare and present qualification/interest and pursuit decision recommendations for review at the Mission Technologies executive level.

  • Serve as the primary HII representative to assigned U.S. Army customers, gathering program intelligence and cultivating relationships with decision-makers and influencers through direct engagement and participation in industry events.

  • Collaborate with Mission Technologies’ subject matter experts to prepare and deliver white papers, presentations, and responses to RFIs, improving the company’s position with customers and on targeted opportunities.

  • Contribute to Mission Technologies’ strategic planning by providing market insights, customer mission analysis, competitive positioning, and guidance on investments to maximize growth opportunities.

  • Work with HII Corporate Government and Customer Relations and the Mission Technologies Marketing team to support congressional and DoD engagements and develop impactful messaging for lawmakers, defense leaders, and customers.

  • Deliver high-quality presentations of market and opportunity assessments to HII’s CEO and Board of Directors as needed.

What you must have

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 10 years of relevant progressive experience, or Master’s degree with 8 years of relevant progressive experience, or High School Diploma or equivalent with 14 years of relevant progressive experience.

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the U.S. Army market, managing or working on projects related to military technology, weapons systems, sensor systems, intelligence systems, cybersecurity, or other national security areas.

  • Strong understanding of government contracting procedures.

  • A minimum of 5 years of successful business development experience in the U.S. Defense Industry, demonstrating measurable growth through proactive strategies that led to a measurable increase in sales revenue and market penetration.

  • Expertise in verbal and non-verbal communication, including active listening, clear articulation, adapting to various audiences, and public speaking. Experience presenting analyses and solutions to executive leadership is required.

  • Clearance: Must possess and maintain a Top Secret security clearance with previous SCI access.

Preferred: Bonus Points For...

  • DAWIA Level II certification or higher.

  • At least 3 years of business development experience within the U.S. Army market.

  • Proposal writing experience is a plus.

  • Master’s degree preferred.
