The foundation of BD’s Public Affairs strategy is to proactively engage with policymakers to improve our mutual understanding of unmet public health needs around the world and support efforts to appropriately position our portfolio with customers. We seek to find opportunities to craft policies to speed time to market, enhance innovation and drive technology adoption.

About the role

As Senior Director of Government Relations for EMEA you will be r esponsible for advancing government relations initiatives in the region in partnership with country leaders along with the leaders of International Affairs and Community Affairs. The position will collaborate closely with public health policy and market access team members to ensure alignment on priorities and drive an overall cohesive approach in messaging to policymakers.

Main responsibilities will include:

Develop, drive and implement Public Affairs strategies to mitigate risk and enable growth within the EMEA region by:

  • crafting government policies to reduce barriers to market entry and ensure reasonable requirements specifically related to regulatory policy and environmental policy;

  • educating policymakers about BD’s presence and investments and help drive engagement with government officials;

  • partnering with the public health policy leader in advancement of policy initiatives and programs at the intersection of BD capabilities and policymaker priorities through development of guidelines, regulations or laws;

  • improving pull-through of market access initiatives in partnership with global and regional market access leaders;

  • establishing regional engagement strategy, together with country, business, and global public affairs leaders, demonstrating BD’s manufacturing footprint, industry trade associations and other policymaker relationships;

  • Developing and implementing communication strategies and tools to elevate BD’s profile, drive public affairs strategies and respond to public communications in collaboration with the regional communications team.

Drive awareness of policy environment to support business strategy

  • Sense and interpret policy trends to identify opportunities for growth and manage risk to regional and corporate strategies. Provide insights to respective leaders.

  • Identify areas where policy shifts impact BD and work with regional and functional leaders to prepare appropriate response.

Provide strategic functional direction

  • Define the EMEA public affairs strategy and organizational structure to support regional business priorities

  • Support review and alignment of market access resources within business units, commercial teams and at country level to ensure compliance and optimize collaboration across EMEA.

  • Convene public affairs associates in EMEA to support regional public affairs priorities, share best practices and promote capacity building.

About you

We are looking for experienced Public Affairs Leader in government relations, market access or policy fields with a focus on healthcare with extensive knowledge of EMEA government systems at the country and EU-level coupled with political and organizational savviness.

Your other attributes include:

  • Detailed understanding of healthcare systems across EMEA and considerations for medical technology in EMEA

  • Established relationships with policymakers and thought leaders

  • Analytical, problem solving, persuasive ability to influence key partners

  • Strong business acumen developed through leadership roles and proven track record of contributing to growth through shaping favorable policy environment

  • Proven capability and experience leading teams of senior leaders and ability to collaborate effectively with associates with separate reporting responsibilities as well as with other corporate functions (Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, etc.)

  • Excellent oral and written communication capabilities

  • BA/BS required; advanced degree desirable
