general description and Responsibilities
  • Assists with creating a supportive, warm, and welcoming environment for students.
  • Assist and communicate with staff in maintaining records, logs, charts, assignments, and other records for assessment of student progress.
  • Work effectively with staff as a team member
  • Work efficiently, be flexible and organized.
  • Assist students with a wide range of mild to moderate disabilities; including communication, and/or behavior disorders: in mastering appropriate skills.
  • Assist students in adjusting to school/program/area/classroom and establish appropriate standards of conduct; executing and monitoring behavior plans, and interventions as directed by certificated staff.
  • Assist with a wide variety of academic assignments and/or instruction related to work in the classroom including technology-based programs
  • Monitor student behavior in classrooms, halls, cafeteria, at bus boarding areas, playfields, and other areas as assigned to ensure safe and appropriate student behavior
  • Other duties as assigned

minimum qualifications- education and experience

  • Experience in working with students in individual and/or group settings.
  • Ability and willingness to learn specific skills/techniques as directed to provide for the student's educational needs and progress.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn and apply the Washington State 14 Core Competencies for paraprofessionals.
  • First aid/CPR/AED training or willingness to receive training required.
  • Para Educators hired after January 8, 2002, must have (1) completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; (2) obtained an associate's (or higher) degree; OR (3) met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instruction reading, writing, and mathematics in order to be considered for a position.
