Job Title: Shipping Clerk

Job Description

Under limited supervision, performs a variety of packaging and shipping activities in accordance with postal regulations, government, commercial and other customer specifications. Complete non-repetitive, complex assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Verify accuracy of shipments against pick lists, sales orders, bills of lading, and invoices or other records

  • Maintain necessary records and files of transactions accurately and in a timely fashion

  • Accurately create and promptly communicate Purchase Orders to Outside Processors

  • Verify and perform purchase order receipts from vendors in ERP system

  • Perform cycle counts efficiently and coordinate/ensure inventory accuracy measures

  • Define stock locations to best advantage for efficiency and accessibility

  • Facilitate communication between customers, outside processors, transporters, suppliers

  • Route WIP, raw materials and packaging materials to proper departments or work center

  • Independently inspect merchandise for visible flaws and damage and respond appropriately

  • Stock and/or restock orders as necessary

  • Correctly prepare merchandise for shipment and arrange transportation

  • Follow all environmental health and safety policies and procedures, model safe work practices

  • Contribute to and support a positive and respectful workplace environment

  • Determine appropriate methods and specifications of packaging to comply with contractual agreements

  • Coordinate shipping transactions and ensure on-time delivery

  • Instruct and/or assist in preparing merchandise for shipment and arranging transportation

  • Monitor shipping supplies and reorder as needed

Essential Skills

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • 2-5 years’ experience as a shipping clerk

  • Ability to operate standard shipping and packaging equipment

  • Ability to operate forklift and scissor lift

  • Intermediate Excel skills – Filter, Pivot, V-lookup, Charts, basic formulas

  • Basic computer skills – email, and Microsoft Suite

  • Ability to type a minimum of 50wpm

  • Strong focus and attention to detail

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong focus on customer service

  • Ability to quickly master new business knowledge and technical skills

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Epicor Avante ERP system is a benefit, but not required

  • Familiarity with FTC and International Trades Laws
