Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

A successful candidate will be the Designer Discipline Technical Lead (DTL) for our Cabin Integration (CI) team. They will be the focal designer for assigned projects and participate as a team member within an Integrated Project Team (IPT). The individual will be responsible for the execution of the Scope of Work (SOW) and lead a team of designers. They will assign and track tasks according to the SOW within the team and review drawings in Teamcenter as a design supervisor. The individual will also ensure all tasks are delivered on time and on budget. As required, the candidate will also work as a designer to support projects assigned to different DTLs.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the full Scope of Work (SOW) and subdivide tasks among the identified designer team.

  • Provide design support and directions and track team assignments.

  • Verify all project requirements are met, including export control.

  • Ensure schedule and budget are met, identify risks, and propose risk mitigation plans.

  • Review and approve models, drawings, and documents as Design Supervisor.

  • Conduct and support internal design reviews.

  • Conduct design supervisor reviews of models, drawings, and documents.

  • Support different projects assigned to different DTLs as a designer.

  • Support manufacturing operations and testing as needed.

  • Coordinate with the IPT and all disciplines within the team such as electrical engineers, stress engineers, flammability engineers, purchasing, operations, and program management.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from a four-year college or university and 5 years related experience and/or training in product design, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 4 years experience.

  • In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience will be considered.

  • Relevant 3D solid modeling and drafting experience.

  • Ability to interpret 2D drawings including understanding GD&T and performing tolerance stack-ups (Understanding of Y14.100).

  • NX CAD experience (formerly Unigraphics).

  • Siemens Teamcenter experience.

  • Design experience with aircraft interior parts, including sheet metal, machining, injection molding, vacuum forming, and 3D printing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong ability and proven track record of multitasking by owning several projects and running them simultaneously.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with individuals whose first language is not English.

  • Ability to research and investigate design solutions and work independently.

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Strong understanding of part production and assembly installation.

  • Strong understanding of integration design and aviation regulatory.

  • Ability to create and/or coordinate simple mockups to perform proof of concept.

  • Ability to communicate with production employees to understand their concerns.

  • Ability to interact with high levels of internal and external personnel.

  • Strong mechanical engineering skills, including understanding how stresses flow through a particular design.

Work Environment

This position is 100% onsite with a flexible schedule from 8am to 4:30pm. There is a possibility for a temporary-to-permanent transition for the right candidate.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $68.00
