Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) , a well-respected, nationally recognized and award-winning public healthcare system is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our Psychiatric Emergency services. CHA is comprised of three Hospital campuses and an integrated network of both primary and specialty outpatient care practices in Cambridge, Somerville and Boston’s Metro North Region, with a fully integrated electronic medical record system (EPIC). The CHA Department of Psychiatry is recognized as a leader in patient care, teaching and research.

Under the general direction of the Medical Director, and within established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner performs a variety of duties designed to meet the health care needs of individuals, families, and the community in general.

  • Per Diem; Various Shifts, MNA Everett Union

  • Assess the physical and psychosocial health of individuals and families by: obtaining health, medical and social histories using the problem oriented (SOAP) recording system.

  • Evaluating, interpreting and recording the developmental status of the patient and family in order to plan and execute proper intervention.

  • Performing physical examinations.

  • Consults appropriately with collaborating physician in accordance with guidelines.

  • Initiates, evaluates and modifies the effectiveness of therapeutic plans, collaborating Appropriately with other members of the health care team.

  • Assesses the patient’s level of health education and provides appropriate teaching.

  • Orders laboratory and radiographic studies as necessary for the determination of health status according to guidelines. Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings.

  • Evaluates results and determines which findings require consultation or referrals to other Providers.

  • Works with the community to assess health needs. Assists in the development and implementation of programs designed to meet community needs.

  • Maintains accurate records, and maintains referral books and tickler files for follow-up of specific problems..

  • Communicates effectively and works as part of a team. Displays ability to get along with co-workers, other departments and the public.

  • Adjusts to new, different, or urgent work situations.

  • Performs other related or similar duties as directed or as responsibilities necessitate.

Ideal Candidates will have at least 1 year Nurse Practitioner inpatient or psychiatric emergency experience. A Master’s degree (Nursing preferred) with a specialization in psychiatric mental health nursing or relevant clinical area. Current Massachusetts licensure is required authorizing practice in an expanded role as a Psychiatric Nurse Clinical Specialist and authorization including prescriptive authority.
