UPMC Professional Staff Nurse- Operating Room (Experienced Nurses Only) in Erie, Pennsylvania
UPMC Hamot's Operating Room has opportunities for Full-Time Registered Nurses to join their team! We have a 17 suite operating room that offers wide variety of specialties from Robotics, Kidney Transplants, Trauma and almost everything in between. We provide high quality care for both our elective and urgent patients from infant to geriatrics. Shifts/Hours: Our RNs work a rotating 10- or 12-hour schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor.

Overview: The Professional Staff Nurse OR is a Registered Nurse who plays a crucial role in patient care. This position involves setting care standards, managing patient care, and collaborating with healthcare providers, patients, and families to achieve the best outcomes. The nurse also demonstrates a commitment to the community and the nursing profession.
Responsibilities:
Professional Growth: Continuously improve professional skills and patient care quality. Participate in team governance and support changes to enhance care and the work environment.
Patient Care: Use the nursing process to create a healing environment. Set daily goals and care plans with patients, considering their holistic needs. Communicate effectively with other care providers and document patient information thoroughly. Aim to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction by aligning with organizational goals.
Education: Teach patients, families, students, and new staff. Provide clear guidance to help patients transition through different care levels. Support the development of new staff and colleagues, and encourage continuous learning and feedback.
Quality Improvement: Engage in quality improvement efforts. Identify and act on opportunities to enhance patient care and satisfaction. Use research and evidence-based practices to improve clinical care.
Team Collaboration: Build strong working relationships with colleagues. Respect cultural differences and promote healthy relationships. Balance work and personal life, model safe work hours, and report any safety hazards.
Scrub Role: Perform scrub duties if hired on or after July 1, 2023.
Other Duties: Follow system-wide competencies and perform other assigned tasks.
Job Requirements:
Patient Care Skills: Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care for patients of all ages. Understand growth and development principles and assess patient data to meet age-specific needs as per department policies.
Relationship Building: Establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
Productivity and Adaptability: Work effectively in a complex environment, handle multiple and changing priorities, and use specialized equipment.
Clinical Judgment: Exhibit good clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities related to patient care. Lead others in applying the nursing process.
Physical Requirements: Have mobility, visual manual dexterity, and physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Preferred Certification: UPMC-approved national certification.
Licensure: Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement.
CPR Certification: CPR certification based on AHA standards, including both didactic and skills demonstration, within 30 days of hire.
Graduate Nurses: Must complete the licensure examination within four months of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. Temporary permits are valid for one year from graduation, not from the issue date.
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.
Registered Nurse (RN) or Temporary Practice Permit (TPP).
Clearances: Act 33 with renewal, Act 34 with renewal, Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
