UPMC Clinician, Mom-Baby Unit in Erie, Pennsylvania
UPMC Hamot Women's Hospital is hiring a Clinician to join the Mom-Baby Unit!
We are looking for a nurse dedicated to serving as an educator between the Maternity and Newborn Unit (MBU) and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Key responsibilities include:
Onboarding and TSAM educator check-ins with preceptors and preceptees
Serving as a resource for SNI and practicum students. Leading M&M sessions.
Facilitating simulation labs. Managing mandatory training and competencies.
Overseeing employee LCRs in MBU and NICU
This role involves direct reporting to education committee leaders and preceptors, including staffing support for both units.
Generous Sign-On Bonus for experienced nurses of up to $15,000 (Amount and eligibility based on type of nursing role and candidate experience)
This position is mainly day shift- with occasional weekend and off shift requirements.
Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience.
Purpose: The Clinician is a nurse leader who plays a crucial role in fostering a culture of excellence in patient care. As a highly developed role model of professional nursing practice, the Clinician works under the direction of the Unit Director or department manager. Key responsibilities include completing employee evaluations, hiring staff, managing daily performance, providing education and clinical expertise, and coordinating clinical activities. The Clinician may also deliver nursing care during shifts when necessary.
Responsibilities:
Develops and maintains productive relationships through mentoring and positive communication.
Coaches on cultural diversity and addresses workplace violence and impairment. Demonstrates accountability for safe work hours, time management, and healthy lifestyles.
Uses performance improvement tools and techniques to enhance care quality and work environment. Shares improvements and best practices across units and the system.
Mentors and educates others, impacting patients, families, peers, and the healthcare team. Acts as a preceptor for student nurses, interns, and new nurses, and develops new preceptors.
Seeks opportunities to share expertise within and beyond the clinical unit. Incorporates organizational goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.
Builds compassionate patient relationships and disseminates new knowledge through various formats.
Applies nursing knowledge within Relationship Based Care to meet patient and family needs. Demonstrates critical thinking in analyzing clinical and psychosocial issues.
Communicates effectively with care providers and ensures comprehensive patient documentation. Leads clinical nursing practice improvements and supports staff during change.
Practices participatory leadership and engages in shared leadership roles. Takes on formal leadership responsibilities in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and onboarding.
Assists with staff performance evaluations for direct reports.
Minimum 3 years of nursing experience. NICU experience required, post-partum experience preferred.
Master's degree preferred. BS/BSN required (if BS degree not in nursing, a Master's or higher degree in Nursing is required).
Demonstrated competence as a Professional Staff Nurse. Knowledge and skills to provide care and interact appropriately with patients of various ages.
Understanding of growth and development principles over the life span. Ability to assess and interpret patient data to meet age-specific needs.
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
Ability to work productively and effectively in a complex environment with multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities related to patient care.
Critical thinking skills to lead others in applying the nursing process.
Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
Registered Nurse (RN)
Act 33 with renewal
Act 34 with renewal
Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
National Certification preferred.
*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
