Job Duties and Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Embedded Software Engineer to join our talented engineering team. This senior-level position combines deep technical expertise in embedded systems and set-top box technologies with strategic leadership. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing software for our set-top box products, ensuring an exceptional user experience and seamless content delivery. The ideal candidate will drive innovation in our set-top box software development, lead complex projects, and shape our technical direction in the digital television space.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design and implementation of embedded software for set-top boxes, including system software, drivers, and applications
Architect scalable and robust software solutions that meet performance and reliability requirements
Optimize software for performance, memory usage, and power efficiency in set-top box environments
Develop and implement real-time features for live TV, DVR, and on-demand content
Collaborate with hardware teams to define and implement hardware-software interfaces
Conduct code reviews and mentor junior engineers on best practices and technique, contributing to building a strong engineering culture
Contribute to technical roadmaps and long-term strategic planning for set-top box platforms
Troubleshoot and debug complex issues in hardware and software interactions
Contribute to system-level testing and validation processes
Stay current with industry trends and advancements in embedded systems technology
Skills, Experience and Requirements
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
7+ years of experience in embedded software development, with a focus on set-top box or similar consumer electronics
Skills and Qualifications:
Expert-level proficiency in C/C++ programming for embedded systems
Strong understanding of digital TV technologies, video codecs, and streaming protocols
Experience with Linux-based embedded systems
Experience with multimedia frameworks and APIs (e.g., GStreamer, FFmpeg)
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex system-level issues
Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and Agile development methodologies
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency in Java programming
Experience with IPTV and OTT streaming technologies
Knowledge of content protection systems and DRM technologies
Experience with CI/CD practices for embedded systems
Understanding of user interface development for TV platforms
Familiarity with audio/video post-processing techniques
Experience with set-top box testing and validation processes
Knowledge of wireless communication protocols (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Zigbee)
Salary Ranges
Compensation: $110,100.00/Year - $157,300.00/Year
