Selective Insurance is seeking a Paralegal for our staff counsel office in Elmsford, NY. This role will provide litigation support to a team of attorneys, focusing on discovery and discovery-related motions, briefs, memoranda and other pleadings. Paralegals generally do not provide transcription support to attorneys and all paralegal work is self-generated without secretarial transcription support. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare draft answers to written discovery, replies to document demands, and responses to requests for admission propounded upon clients.
  • Create, update, and prepare correspondence, pleadings, briefs, motions, memoranda, summaries, reports, etc. using the Company's legal case management software, and voice recognition equipment. Proofread final work product to ensure high quality and compliance with office standards.
  • Analyze adversaries written discovery responses in order to determine whether follow-up is needed for more specific responses.
  • Prepare motions related to discovery.
  • Summarize discovery received.
  • Summarize medical records received
  • Schedule IME's and Expert inspections
  • Assist in expert retention and document transfer.
  • Propound discovery on other parties as requested by assigned attorney, in accordance with office protocol.
  • Provide trial support as requested by assigned attorney, in accordance with office protocol.
  • Provide other assistance as requested by managing attorney.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 5 years paralegal experience in the jurisdiction required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel required.
  • Legal case management software experience preferred.
  • Excellent customer service, writing and oral communication skills required.

The salary range for this position is $52,700-$86,700. The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include the candidate's qualifications and experience.
