Materion Extrusion Operator in Elmore, Ohio

Works as a member of the press crew, following standard operating procedures and written instructions. Operates press and related equipment in absence of Lead Extrusion Press operator or when being trained in its operation. Assists Lead Extrusion Press Operator in making major and minor press tooling changes and equipment adjustments. Lubricates press liner, die, and mandrel prior to each extrusion cycle. Assists Lead Extrusion Press operator with the installation and removal of die feeder plates and pusher blocks. Cleans and inspects stem, and extrusion tooling after each cycle and frequently inspects liner and reports conditions to Lead Extrusion Press Operator. Works as a member of press crew to assemble billet orders and in loading and unloading billet and tool preheating equipment of furnaces. Operates hot coiler and loads coiled rod on racks, observes material for surface quality, and cuts out scrap. Positions extrusions on the run-out table, operates transfer and cut-off equipment. Operates lift truck to move materials, tools, etc.

Starting Pay: $26.85

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Sets up and operates extrusion press to shape hot billets into products such as bars, tubing, shapes, and rods

  • Installs dies, mandrels, containers, stems, mandrel movers, and run-outs in press according to size and type of product using a bridge crane

  • Removes billet from furnaces when gauges indicate specified temperature. Transfers billets to extrusion press loading arm

  • Starts ram that pushes billet into contain and forces it through press

  • Regulates rate of extrusion to prevent metal rupture and adherence of metal to container walls

  • Lubricates die set up, container, and mandrels

  • Record data in various computer programs

  • May operate extrusion press equipped with a furnace that ejects hot billets into press chamber for ram to force through die

  • Operates hot coiler, run-out table, transfer system, saw, and equipment to move materials, tools, and finished product

  • Examine, measure, and weigh materials or products to verify conformance to standards, using measuring devices such as templates, micrometers, or scales

    Requirements: ​

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Must be able to pass a Physical Skills Assessment that is required to work in this position

  • Must be able to work independently without supervision

  • Must follow all environmental health and safety rules and regulations and must wear all required safety equipment

  • Must have concern for safety for themselves and co-workers

  • Must have a positive, team player attitude

The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).

The candidate selected will have to qualify as either a U.S. citizen, a U.S. National, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a Person Admitted into the U.S. as an Asylee or Refugee., a National of a country that is not prohibited from having access to U.S. controlled technology (via a letter of assurance), or a Person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction.
