Job Title: Float Phlebotomist

Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and punctual Phlebotomist with over 2 years of phlebotomy experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will have proficiency with straight needles and butterfly, as well as pediatric experience. This role requires strong communication skills and a commitment to high-quality patient care.

Work Environment

This role requires travel to various locations in Queens and Long Island, including Elmhurst, Woodhaven, Woodside, Far Rockaway, Patchogue, Westbury, and Brentwood.

Parking, tolls, and mileage are reimbursed.

Schedule

  • The position requires availability between the hours of 7am-8pm

  • Monday through Friday, with every other or every third Saturday from 9am-3pm.

  • The role offers opportunities for consistent overtime.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, decontaminate, and update patient information.

  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

  • Properly explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods to patients in a clear and courteous manner.

  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.

  • Package specimens for transport.

  • Store specimen samples according to required temperature, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow procedures necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimens.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or outpatient setting.

  • Proficiency with straight needles and butterfly.

  • Experience with pediatric phlebotomy.

  • Strong communication skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in specimen collection, patient care, and venipuncture.

  • Ability to match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00
