Job Overview:

The Radiology Technologist performs quality diagnostic x-ray exams to all patient populations of the hospital. X-ray exams are done in the X-ray Department, portably throughout the facility and in the OR.

The Radiology Technologist will also be asked to lift, assist and transport patients, perform data entry for exam tracking and patient charging and other departmental duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate of Radiology program

  • Proficient in using PACS and CR systems

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • New Jersey license fromRadiologic Technology Board of Examiners (https://www.nj.gov/dep/rpp/tec/rtboard.htm)

  • American Registry Of Radiologic Technologists (AART) Certification Eligible

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift working, 4:30pm-12:00am

  • PT

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of exam protocols including prep, positioning, safety, technique, processing and image labeling

  • Operate Radiology equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Keep room and equipment clean and in good order

  • Report all equipment malfunctions to supervisor

  • Produce high-quality radiographs including proper positioning, markers, shielding, technique and image quality

  • Track status of exams to completion using RIS

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of order entry system and accurately place orders

  • Perform necessary QA and record-keeping functions routinely or as assigned

  • Effectively communicate exam instructions to patients, answer questions and allay anxiety

  • Use translation system when needed

  • Achieve IV Contrast Administrative competence if desired (required from CT and MRI techs) and safely administers contrast media

  • Transport patients from holding area to exam rooms and to and/or from ER when necessary

  • Assist with transport of patient from unit to/from Radiology department

  • Operate equipment in surgical suite

  • Observe sterile precautions

  • Anticipate needs of surgeon

  • Utilize PACS and CR system and enter accurately identified and labeled images of patients

  • Retrieve old images and films, when necessary

  • Supervise radiology students and perform evaluations when necessary
