Position Description:
Performs specialized Post Doctoral work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research at TTUHSC. Responsible for participating in a research project associated with Ph.D studies and the interpretation of the results of publication. Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions:
Preparation of cells and tissues for histological and immunocytochemical and immunohistochemical analysis.
Perform digital imaging of tissues and animals; amplify RNA from cells and tissue by using Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction methods and perform protein isolation and identification experiments using proteomic technology.
Collects, records, maintains and interprets data.
Develops semi-independent research agenda, i.e... experimental designs.
Responsible for day to day maintenance of lab equipment. Responsible for purchasing and inventory.
Performs survival or non-survival surgery on laboratory animals.
Applies for extramural postdoctoral grant funding; prepares abstracts and manuscripts for publication.
Completes all required training programs successfully and timely.
Other duties as required to ensure smooth operation of research lab and to facilitate the conduct of approved research study.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in Biomedical Science or closely relevant field with strong background in molecular cell biology, genetics, and especially experience in signal transduction, proteomics, and vertebrate animal research is highly desirable.
Hands-on experience with protein assays (western blot, immunoprecipitation, primary cell cultures) is essential.
Strong work ethic, good communication skills and previous publications in peer-reviewed journals, will be a major determinant of candidacy.
Highly motivated recent graduates with research experience in animal handling and/or electron/confocal microscopy are especially encouraged to apply.
