The worker will perform job duties as assigned by the supervisor. They will vary from time to time depending on crop and weather. The farm work is temporary and will last from August to October. The workers will unload trucks with seed corn from harvest, hand sort rogue ears of corn, operating husking equipment, load and unload ear corn dryers, shell and sample corn. Corn Detasseling: Workers will walk along assigned row of seed corn and remove the remaining tassels from stalk on both sides of row. Care must be taken to remove tassel completely without damaging stalks. Perform any other duties involved in detasseling and rouging of seed corn and maintenance of fields and production areas. Field Work- the worker will maintain the fields. This will consist of installing and repairing irrigation, weeding corn fields with a hoe, rouging, detasseling, bagging, seed conditioning, harvesting, husking, sorting and drying seed, and other miscellaneous work. A properly licensed worker will be required to transport workers to and from work each day. A properly trained worker will assist in operating various farm equipment to assist with farm labor. A qualified worker may be requested to be a working team leader. Equipment and Vehicle Operation-The workers may need to drive and/or operate various agricultural farm equipment and vehicles to perform the work on the farm such as field trucks, tractors, and forklifts. The workers must use safety and precaution when using agricultural farm equipment and vehicles. All passengers must be seated and practice safety and precaution. The passengers must wait to exit the agricultural farm equipment and vehicles when the driver comes to a complete stop and gets off the vehicle. The workers will keep the agricultural farm equipment and vehicles free of trash. Only properly licensed drivers will be permitted to operate the agricultural farm equipment and vehicles. Workers must take care to operate all equipment safely and follow all safety requirements outlined by the employer. General Maintenance to Farm & Farm Equipment- The workers may be asked to perform general maintenance and light mechanical work to farm and field equipment, perform repairs around the farm and to farm equipment, seed storage building and fencing, sweep, clean, and organize work area and farm bins.
