SUMMARY

The Engineer 3 will fulfill the role of project responsible engineer and is responsible for all technical aspects of the physical and/or the software layer of the project automation scope. He/she will interact with the client, the Dynalectric project team and other project disciplines and trades during all stages of the project. The Engineer 3 will provide technical leadership for multiple projects/assignments, participate in department personnel decisions and, in collaboration with the project manager, ensure that all project schedule and quality objectives are satisfied.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the project responsible engineer, the Associate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including periodic

  • Peer-review the design work of colleagues to ensure that project quality objectives are satisfied.

  • Direct the design of control systems architectures to satisfy user requirements for communications, integration, data acquisition and redundancy.

  • Direct the development of project related drawing and documentation packages such as wiring diagrams, control panels, interconnect diagrams, specifications and

  • Direct the specification of instruments, valves and

  • Configure, program, test, and troubleshoot control systems and

  • Direct the configuration, programming, testing and troubleshooting of graphical user

  • Direct the configuration, programming, testing and troubleshooting of data

  • Direct the development of project test protocols including FAT, SAT and

  • Prepare detailed design specifications.

  • Direct the configuration, programming, testing and troubleshooting of instruments, valves and

  • Lead interactive design reviews with the client and the client’s consulting

  • Execute FAT, SAT and SIT

  • Provide onsite support and service for local

  • Prepare recommendations to remediate or update existing control systems to meet client needs (e.g., component obsolescence or additional functionality).

  • Identify and vet new and/or unfamiliar technologies, products, and services that can reduce client costs or add value.

  • Provide engineering support for the foremen responsible for system installation and

  • Provide technical support and training to less-senior

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • An undergraduate technical degree (e.g., ChE, ME, EE) from an accredited institution and demonstrated competence in three of the performance domains below, or

  • A control systems engineering PE license (any state), or

  • Demonstrated competence in four of the performance domains

Performance domains:

  1. Control Panel Design: Panel layout and power distribution, enclosure selection, breaker/fuse selection, I/O selection, loop drawings, VFD selection/configuration, relational database maintenance, UL 508A compliance.

  2. Control System Design: System architecture, device level LANs, controller selection, hazard analysis and mitigation, circuits for hazardous areas (XP, IS, NI), safety circuits and interlocks, overpressure relief device selection, specification development, test protocol development, RFI

  3. Instrumentation and Final Control Elements: Configuration of and application limitations for common pressure/level/temperature sensor technologies, analyzers, flow meters, toxic and combustible gas detectors. Control valve sizing and selection, regulator sizing and selection, instrument and valve datasheets, material compatibility with common process

  4. Codes and Standards: NFPA 70 1 (national electrical code), ISA RP-12 (intrinsic safety), ISA S88 2 (batch), ASME BPE 3 (bioprocessing equipment), ASME BPCV 4 (pressurized vessels), ANSI 5 5 (pipe flanges and fittings), UL 508A (industrial control panels).

  5. Control System Software Development: Control logic development, graphical user interface development, network configuration, time sequence database development, communication

Compensation Range: $110,000-$120,000

The compensation range are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
