The Vail Child Development Center Early Childhood Teacher in Edwards, Colorado

Job Title - Toddler and Preschool Team Teacher Reports to- Site Director and Executive Director

Description:

The person selected for this position will be responsible for the general supervision, management, care, and education of a group of children. This person will act as part of a teaching team. The team plans and implements the curriculum and, with active participation of other members of the teaching team, works with parents and assesses the needs of individual children.

Qualifications:

The person selected for this position must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children and must be able to meet the requirements of the licensing agency. This person must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults. This person must have the personality and ability to provide leadership and stability for program continuity. This person must hold an Early Childhood Teacher certificate or be group lead qualified.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

To establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment " Designs appropriate room arrangement to support the goal of the classroom " Promotes healthy eating practices, proper handwashing techniques, use of tissues, etc. " Implements the safety policies of the center " Posts necessary information to ensure the safety and well-being of the children " Maintains an orderly learning environment " Assumes an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff

To advance physical and intellectual competence " Provides a balance between child-initiated and teacher-initiated activities " Provides a balance between quiet and active learning activities, as well as large-group and small-group activities " Uses equipment and materials for indoor and outdoor play that promote children's physical development " Plans, supervises, and implements the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the center (The Creative Curricu " Provides an integrated curriculum that meets the needs of individual children with concern for their interests, handicaps, special talents, individual style and pace of learning, and cultural and socio-economic backgrou " Plans and implements experiences that promote language and literacy development as well as acquisition of number concepts " Plans and implements experiences that promote the development of fine and gross motor skills

To support social and emotional development and provide positive guidance " Plans and implements hands-on activities that develop positive self-esteem and social skills " Plans and implements culturally diverse experiences " Uses and promotes positive guidance techniques " Uses and promotes positive techniques for resolving conflicts " Provides a wide variety of creative and expressive activities " Establishes routines with smooth transition periods " Communicates with children at their developmental level " Encourages children to be independent

To establish positive and productive relationships with families " Relates assessment information to parents and offers support for dealing with children at different developmental stages " Promotes communication with parents through daily progress notes, a monthly newsletter, portfolios, informal conversations, and annual conferences " Welcomes new families into the classroom following the Orientation Checklist " Provides a variety of ways that families can participate in the program and encourages parent participation

To ensure a well-run, purposeful program responsive to participant needs " Assesses program supplies and materials needed prior to implementing activities " Coordinates and helps supervise substitutes, floats,and volunteers working in the classroom " Meets weekly with Team to develop written lesson plans, and discuss classroom needs " Assesses children s needs and developmental progress on ongoing basis " Uses the results of assessment to plan activities

To maintain a commitment to professionalism " Promotes the center's philosophy and educational objectives (The Creative Curriculum) " Supports the NAEYC's Code of Ethical Conduct and Developmentally Appropriate Practice " Engages in ongoing staff development to improve personal and professional skills (15 clock hours of training required per calendar year) " Supports the professional growth and development of colleagues by sharing materials and information and providing helpful feedback and encouragememt. " Attends staff meetings, workshops, and in-service training provided by the center
