Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Certified Nursing Assistant provides assistance in the safe and effective nursing care of patients in a variety of age groups which may include neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric which is consistent with the provisions of Chapter 246-841 WAC. Performs a variety of tasks to provide safe and effective patient care which is consistent with established plan of care, unit procedures and standards of practice and competencies of nursing assistants including, but not limited to: taking and recording vital signs, measuring and recording height, weight, food and fluid intake and output, recognizing and reporting abnormal signs and symptoms, maintaining orderly and safe environment for patient. Provides personal care assistance to assigned patients, including bathing, dressing, eating, transportation and other personal needs. Responds to call bells, assists patients with communication and runs errands as required to ensure quality patient care. Completes appropriate sections of the Nursing Admission Assessment record and orients patients to rooms and unit routine. Records and reports observations, actions and information regarding assigned patients to provide timely and accurate medical records. Participates as an active member of the patient care team, including attending and participating in change of shift reports to maintain awareness of patient conditions and unit activities. Assists co-workers on the unit as required to provide quality and responsive patient care. Participates in unit based Quality Improvement Program in an effort toward improving patient care. Able to perform the role of Patient Safety Attendant (PSA) as directed, by ensuring patient safety, taking responsibility for the environment of care and communicating with RN/charge RN/designee of changes to patient condition in a timely manner. Duties include performing patient care activities, and safety checks that align with system standard of care. Aligns patient safety, self-safety and environmental safety as equally important for best outcomes. Performs other related duties as assigned Required qualifications: Upon hire: Washington Nursing Assistant Certification License Upon hire: National Provider BLS - American Heart Association Preferred qualifications: Experience in an acute care facility preferred, or related work experience.
