Hackensack Meridian Health Vascular Technologist - Per Diem in Edison, New Jersey

Performs all carotid and peripheral vascular testing as ordered by the physician; educates patients and family concerning diagnostic testing that identifies vascular disease processes; interacts with members of the health care team to provide quality care for the patient.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Vascular Technologist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  1. Check physician's order to ensure proper test was ordered. Perform test in a confident and accurate manner following established protocol, proper positioning, imaging techniques and equipment settings to produce high quality diagnostic images. Reviews each study to assure adequate information is captured. Demonstrates knowledge of hospital information system for completion of orders and charging. Generates computer request for patients and maintains inpatient and outpatient schedules in a timely fashion. Should be able to use all relevant computer applications, i.e., PHS, Horizon Clinicals, Clinstar, etc.

  2. Explains procedure to patient to decrease anxiety and increase patient cooperation in a confident and personable manner. Communicates with physician offices, patient nursing units and ordering physicians to facilitate scheduling and/or completion of exams in a professional manner consistent with the organization values.

  3. Documents reason for testing (Dx) where appropriate. Understands the work flow of Xcelera system from utilizing modality work list, transferring images, placing studies and creating preliminary report.

  4. Maintains cleanliness between individual patient's studies, cleaning equipment thoroughly and maintains clean working and waiting areas. Assures safe discharge of each patient from testing area and when necessary assures adequate supply of oxygen. Maintains equipment testing for proper functioning and when necessary, calls for repairs.

  5. Checks inventory and replenishes supplies as needed to support cost containment. Reports statistic on number of procedures and performs routine clerical duties. Performs duties assigned by department, manager and/or director on assigned projects. Participates in the orientation and training of new employees.

  6. Technologist is proficient in other Echo/Vascular/General Ultrasound modalities.

  7. Demonstrates good judgement regarding patient's safety, infection control and HIPPA as required by hospital established standards. Complies with hospital, local, state and federal regulatory and accrediting standards. Adheres to established IT policies and procedures.

  8. Participates in the evaluation of individual studies to improve patient outcomes and operational efficiencies. Participates in continuing education and completes required E-Learning as assigned and maintains credential CEU's.

  9. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

  10. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. Graduate of AMA approved school of diagnostic medical sonography with specialty in vascular technology or practical experience gained in a diagnostic vascular setting combined with continuing education with references to support competency.

  2. Minimum 1-2 years on the job clinical experience or new graduate of an AMA approved school of diagnostic medical sonography.

  3. Proficient in carotid & peripheral vascular testing utilizing diagnostic imaging ultrasound equipment; capable of troubleshooting equipment issues; proven competency to adhere to the medical center's established scanning protocols; basic computer skills.

  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  5. Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  1. Registered Vascular Technologist Certification.
