We are looking to recruit an Associate Director/Technical Director, with a great understanding of the Scottish planning system, to lead our team of Infrastructure Planners to meet the needs of our clients and projects.

WSP is looking to grow its Infrastructure Planning team in Scotland with senior level town planners who have experience of leading and delivering infrastructure projects under the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act or Electricity Act. Given that many of our projects are cross boundary projects, experience of the DCO Process/Planning Act 2008 would also be advantageous. We work at all stages of the consenting process from early feasibility, application preparation and delivery of consents through construction and on a variety of projects across onshore and offshore wind, CCUS and Hydrogen, energy transmission and distribution, water, and local government sectors. You will have experience at business development as well as project delivery and be experienced at working in a multi-disciplinary environment.

  • Day-to-day management of the Infrastructure Planning Team in Edinburgh

  • Organising and managing work in a professional and responsible manner, collaborating closely across multi-disciplinary planning, land and environmental teams

  • Providing technical advice to clients and managing their consenting requirements

  • Preparing consent applications which may include applications under the Electricity Act, the Town and Country Planning Acts, and the Planning Act 2008.

  • Project management with effective budgetary control

  • Desk studies, research, data management and report writing

  • Leading and preparing tender submissions and where required presenting to tenderers.

  • Business Development

The successful candidate will need to be commercially aware and familiar with managing programme and budgets as part of project delivery. They will be responsible for managing and delivering into a broad range of consultancy and consents work including bidding, design/optioneering, assessment, consenting and approvals during construction and delivery.

You will be experienced at the preparation of all planning documentation for infrastructure projects, engagement with key stakeholders including planning authorities and statutory consultees. The role requires a good grounding in statutory procedures applicable to the consenting of infrastructure projects, including EIA.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for this post which will also include exposure to both internal and external clients.

  • Degree level qualification in town planning.

  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject.

  • Chartered status

  • Experience of delivering planning consents for infrastructure projects, working with multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Sound knowledge and experience of the UK planning system.
