Job Summary

We are currently seeking an Industrial Hygienist & Safety Specialist. This position is located in Edgewood, MD .

The primary purpose of this position is to conduct high-quality, on-time, and within-budget project work.

  • Author technical reports, prepare education and training course materials, provide instruction, and conduct safety and industrial hygiene evaluations of workplaces and laboratory operations to ensure the overall health and safety of employees and compliance with applicable regulations. These evaluations involve anticipating, recognizing, evaluating and recommending controls for a wide variety of occupational and environmental health hazards. Specifically, providing safety and occupational health consultation and development of standing operating procedures, test plans, risk assessments, hazard analyses, system safety reviews, equipment operating procedures and facility and equipment design specifications.

  • Industrial Hygiene and Safety Evaluations/Analysis: Serve as an industrial hygiene, O&EH and incident response consultant. Develop and conduct industrial hygiene and safety evaluations, observe personnel during operations, perform preoperational safety surveys and reviews, perform surety, chemical and biological laboratory surveys, and industrial areas safety assessments. Perform surveys, equipment performance evaluations, process hazard analyses, operational risk management assessments, and corrective actions. Comply with OSHA standards where feasible, promote strong Safety and Occupational Health programs, safe working conditions, and safe performance to prevent mishaps, injuries, and occupational illnesses.

  • Training Development and Delivery: Provide subject matter expertise and instruction for technical seminars, workshops, discussion groups, education and training courses, and tabletop and field exercises in all areas of CBRN hazards, response planning, and operations for military installations.

  • Risk Assessment: Provide technical and analytical support in all facets of safety and health risk assessment using accepted practices and procedures. Conduct risk management analyses and follow-up surveys to track corrective actions, workplace safety trend analysis and After-Action Reports (AARs) to identify all factors that contributed to an accident. Develop technical guidance documents and evaluation reports that address health risk assessment, management, communication and mitigation. Assessment and mitigation of hazards associated with toxic industrial chemicals (TICs), toxic industrial materials (TIMs) and chemical, biological, and radiological (CBR) materials in the workplace. Products will result in the development of alternative courses of action for government decision makers who may require risk and safety assessments, studies, hazard analyses, preoperational surveys, safety reviews, and laboratory evaluations.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with 5 years of experience or Master’s degree in related field with 2 years of experience or PhD; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.

  • Experience in health hazard assessment in an operational or field environment.

  • Successful occupational health and safety or industrial hygiene program management experience.

  • Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level clearance.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to meet project technical requirements, budgets, and deadlines.

  • Physically capable of performing the essential job functions of an industrial hygienist at a work site while wearing personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection. It is envisioned that wearing PPE will be an infrequent but necessary requirement of the job.

  • Willingness to travel to client locations in the United States on an as-needed basis. (infrequent)

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of experience in DoD safety and occupational health

  • At least 5 years experience in industrial hygiene, occupational and environmental health or safety engineering

  • Possess a Secret security clearance
