Description
JOB SUMMARY: Responds toemergency calls and interfacility transfers. Provides emergency medical care topatients based on Standards of Care and approved protocols. Communicatesappropriate information to healthcare personnel along with other emergencyservices personnel and maintains necessary patient care records. Performsequipment and vehicle inspections per adopted policies to ensure emergencyresponse readiness. Assists, as needed, in other hospital departments whilefollowing approved Standards of Care and/or the direction of highercertified/licensed healthcare personnel.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education / Certifications:
a. High school graduate orequivalent
b. Current and active TexasDepartment of State Health Services Emergency Medical Technician-Paramediccertification, or Licensed Paramedic.
c. Holds current, or be able toobtain with 90 days of employment:
American Heart Association - Basic Life Support
American Heart Association - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
American Heart Association - Pediatric Advanced Life Support
B. Current and validDrivers License, along with driving record meeting insurability requirementsconsistent with hospital and insurance carrier policies.
C. Personal Job-Related Skills: Effective oral and writtencommunication skills.
D. Working knowledge ofgeneral computer operation is preferred.
E. Ability to adhere tohospital, local, state, and CMS guidelines/policies in the delivery ofemergency care and compliance parameters.
F. Assists and works cooperatively with other hospital departments, asneeded.
G. Accepts both internal andexternal committee assignments, as needed to facilitate hospital and EMSinitiatives.
H. Cannot be included on theOffice of Inspector Generals Exclusion List relating to Medicare payments.
I. Experience:
a. Prior Work Experience: One year minimum working in an EmergencyMedical Services environment is preferred.
J. Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position requireintermittent periods of sitting, standing and walking. Bending, stooping, andreaching is required. The lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying of patientswith the use of equipment is required. Lifting in excess of 150 pounds, withassistance, may be required. Some circumstances require ability to withstandheights, prolonged distances of travel, stress, and hostile environments.Vision requirements include close, distance, color vision and the ability toadjust focus in order to read and interpret instructions. Must be able to hearconversation to interact with physicians, patients, staff, family members andother team members. The work environment may be subject to extreme weatherconditions and emergency situations. Workers are exposed to stressful patientsituations.

A.
Operation and maintenance of emergencyvehicles
Operates vehicles at a safe speed, based onexisting conditions and applicable motor vehicle laws and established policies.
Wears seatbelt at all times while the vehicle isin motion, regardless if driving or front seat passenger.
Performs, or assists with daily vehicleinspections for response readiness, including all patient care equipment anddevices.
Ensures cleanliness of assigned vehicles,including interior patient compartment to present a profess onal appearance andclean environment for patient care.
Ensures vehicles are attached to available ShorePower when parked.
