International Card Services (ICS) organization brings together the International Consumer and Small & Medium Size Enterprises (SME) issuing activities, as well as our Commercial Large Market sales and account development teams outside of the United States. Operational Excellence plays an active role in enabling the businesses to meet their growth objectives whilst demonstrating an effective control framework. Our organization helps our international businesses manage risk, respond to new regulation, and develop new products whilst creating and nurturing effective partnerships across multiple key stakeholders across the organisation.

How will you make an impact in this role?

Reporting into the VP international Operational Excellence – UK Card Services this Director will lead a team responsible for supporting the issuing business in the UK to navigate the operational risk framework. This role requires strong operations and risk management skills, as well as excellent relationship management abilities with the skill to impact and influence at all levels, often without direct authority. It will involve extensive collaboration with multiple partners across numerous business units and geographies.

This role will be accountable for the end-to-end management and delivery of all operational risk program obligationswith responsibility for establishing of the framework and process for all IOE programs and act as a gatekeeper to ensure the intake process is robust and allocated to the correct teams. Also, this role will be responsible to ensure relevant topics and key decisions are properly tracked within the AEESA Legal Entity.

Job Responsibilities:

Among the specific responsibilities, this role will include:

  • Lead a high performing team, driving career talent progression through ongoing leadership engagement as well as a proactive and energised colleague engagement program.

  • Ensure risks and issues are effectively identified, assessed, prioritised, and managed to deliver on local business, regulatory and AXP-wide expectations.

  • Conduct robust risk assessment on new products, new and changing regulation, partners, and other business change, supporting the business, defining, and implementing appropriate controls and monitoring for sustainable risk management.

  • Ensure robust Audit program management, driving strong business engagement, and prompt accurate responses to validate findings, ensuring any MAPs have achievable and sustainable action plans.

  • Support the business leads through the TLM programproviding guidance to the business to manage vendor risk by ensuring appropriate risk assessments and the closure of gaps in line with the TLM framework.

  • Effectively engage and liaise with the central international Operational Excellence teams to support the operational risk programs and streamline key business process.

  • Act as the central point for the UK issuing business for all operational risk programs to ensure the business has the appropriate awareness and oversight of its operational risk.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience working within Operational Excellence, Compliance, Operational Risk, Issuing or Acquiring businesses or a related discipline beneficial

  • Demonstrates a highly developed will to win, to drive challenging programs forward.

  • Demonstrates creative and highly collaborative approach to solving problems, action oriented to facilitate closure of open points, with the ability to challenge the status quo.

  • Proven experience in shifting organisational mindset to understand the impact and urgency of complex regulatory change to support prioritisation within business units.

  • Ability to retain a big picture focus, whilst knowing when there is a need to drill down into the detail.

  • Ability to build and lead cross-functional teams effectively to drive results without direct reporting relationships.

  • Strong executive presence, effective communicator at senior executive level with long standing experience of Board or equivalent level presentations a must

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to craft messages that clearly and succinctly communicate key messages for internal and external audiences.

  • Strong analytical skills and rigor, able to source and interpret data in a meaningful way to inform the program strategy and support decision making.

  • Credible leader with proven ability to develop strong talent & build diverse teams.

  • Relationship management and a proven track record of positively collaborating and partnering with stakeholders.
