Nexstar Media Group Overnight Television News Photojournalist in East Providence, Rhode Island

WPRI-TV is seeking a full-time overnight TV photojournalist to join our news team. Television news photojournalists combine artistic talent and technical expertise to gather, shoot, edit and deliver creative visual news stories for broadcast television and online platforms. Our team provides accurate and high-quality journalism to the southern New England area.

  • The overnight photojournalist shift has an emphasis on covering breaking news including monitoring emergency radio communications and working closely with assignment desk editors and producers. The overnight photojournalist will also run liveshots for the morning newscasts.

  • News photojournalists will gather video and information in the field, work closely with reporters and other newsroom staff and deliver content quickly. Teamwork with a reporter is essential, but some days you may gather the news solo.

  • Shoot and edit video stories under tight deadlines.

  • Operate microwave, satellite live trucks, IP based live transmission gear and other broadcast equipment.

  • Must be willing and able to work any and all shifts as necessary, including overnights/early morning, days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Photojournalists will also be cross-trained as newscast show editors.

  • Must present a professional image as a representation of the station at all times.

  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Specialized Skills:

  • Demonstrate solid ethical news judgment and attention to detail.

  • Understand basic storytelling, shooting, lighting, audio and editing techniques. Our team takes pride in maintaining a high level of quality, including impeccable lighting in the field.

  • Should have excellent communication skills and maintain a positive work environment through active teamwork.

Education and Experience:

  • Previous newsgathering experience is preferred.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere or similar editing applications.

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.

Work Environment/Mental/Physical Requirements:

Must be able to operate computers, cameras and vehicles in a high stress environment with deadline pressures and the demands of breaking news, which can happen at any time. The position will require day-to-day multi-tasking, as well as managing multiple projects simultaneously with frequent change in direction and priority. The position requires the transport of equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Position often requires work in outdoor conditions including extreme temperatures, rain, snow and severe weather events. A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
