Amazon Senior User Experience Designer – L6, Amazon DataZone in East Palo Alto, California

Amazon DataZone is looking for a senior user experience designer to join us as we innovate and redefine data experiences in Amazon Web Services to accelerate data insights for customers with effortless collaboration and governance.

Key job responsibilities

  • Envision, define, and deliver desirable products in a team environment through ideation workshops, co-creation sessions, and iterative design.

  • Create user-centered designs by considering market analysis, customer feedback, and usability findings in partnership with domain experts.

  • Drive design initiative in collaboration with other UX designers to facilitate expereince vision across the organization

  • Use business requirements and market research to assist in developing use cases and high-level requirements.

  • Coordinate user research activities and methods to drive customer empathy and unmet needs.

  • Design the information architecture, interface, and interaction flow of new web and on-device software applications.

  • Art direct or design the visual elements of the web and software applications, and employ existing design system(s).

  • Develop conceptual diagrams, flow diagrams, wireframes, visual mockups, and prototypes.

  • Develop and maintain detailed user-interface specifications for engineering.

  • Present design work to the user experience team, product team, and executives for review and feedback.

  • Contribute to the collective knowledge of AWS’ user-centered design and research methodologies through peer reviews and internal/external events.

A day in the life

As a senior user experience designer in DataZone, you need to be comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and relish the idea of solving problems that haven’t been solved at scale before. You will be responsible champion, drive and lead design initiatives across the entire product and organization. This position requires customer focus, the ability to dive deep, and the confidence to make hard decisions fast. You challenge assumptions and craft purposeful experiences. We are looking for candidates who thrive in a fast-paced startup like environment. To be successful, you will need to be highly motivated, detail oriented and plan for the big picture.

About the team

Amazon DataZone is a data management service that enable customers to find, understand, trust, and use data faster through a unified service for cataloging, discovery, sharing, governing, and analyzing data. With Amazon DataZone, administrators and data stewards who oversee an organization's data assets can manage and govern access to data using fine-grained controls. Amazon DataZone makes it easier for data engineers, data scientists, product managers, analysts, and business users to access data throughout an organization to derive data-driven insights. You will work alongside product management, senior UX designers, and engineering partners to innovate, strategize and redefine experiences that simplify technical cloud concepts to support simplified business user experiences.

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of UX designer or interaction designer experience

  • Have an online portfolio or samples of work on resume, demonstrating experience creating great end-to-end, user-centered design solutions and patterns, across desktop and mobile devices

  • Experience in delivering design solutions for projects of large scope and complexity

  • Experience organizing and evolving a design system in partnership with front-end engineers

  • Bachelor's degree in a design-related field, human-computer interaction (HCI), or 6+ years equivalent professional experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience applying scrum to visual or UX design processes

  • Experience with UX design of complex workflows

  • Experience with design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and prototyping in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Ajax

  • Experience working with stakeholders to plan and execute programs that are strategic in nature

  • Experience with Figma, InVision, Illustrator, Storybook and a quick learner on new tools

  • Knowledge about HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Ajax and API frameworks

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $113,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $211,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
