GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs routine, non-professional, nursing work in the care of patients at the A. Holly Patterson Geriatric Center; performs related duties as required. COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES Under direct supervision, the duties are routine and require the limited use of judgment. TYPICAL DUTIES *1. Bathes, shaves, and dresses patients and attends to their personal needs. *2. Prepares patients for meals and assists with feeding. *3. Passes and empties bedpans and collects urine and other specimens. *4. Transfers residents to and from bed and/or chair via one-person transfer, two person transfer, and use of a hoyer lift. *5. Takes temperatures, blood pressures, pulse, and respiration. *6. Assists patients in walking and assists in transporting patients by means of a wheel chair or stretcher. *7. Assists nursing staff in washing and sterilizing equipment, as required. *8. Maintains clinic and ward areas in proper cleanliness. *ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 1. Ability to provide bedside patient care. 2. Ability to perform cleaning and housekeeping functions as related directly to the patient. 3. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, including interpretation of resident care plans. 4. Ability to lift and transfer residents from chair to bed and vice versa. 5. Ability to maintain simple records. 6. Ability to develop and maintain patience and tact in dealing with patients. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Training and Experience Completion of eighth grade education. Necessary Special Requirement Continuing possession of a certificate issued by the New York State Department of Health, Residential Health Care Facility Nurse Aide Certification Program.
