Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

The Coordinator will assume responsibilities assigned by the Associate Director and College Access Initiatives (C.A.I.) Director. The Coordinator will assist in the implementation and development of program curriculum and tools to assists program participants in realizing their educational potential. The Coordinator will work in the local school districts (per grant guidelines) with both middle and high schools and will assist with the implementation of the program mission, vision and goals. The Coordinator is expected to work independently to lead outreaches in schools and bring to fruition campus visits. The Coordinator will work with established school contacts and develop new connections to serve the program participants. The Coordinator will be asked to present to Middle and High School students on following topics:

• Transitioning from middle school to high school • Transitioning from high school to college • How to apply to college • How to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (F.A.F.S.A.) • Knowing Your Resources • Time Management • Study Skills • Tutoring Students • Alternatives to College • Goal Setting

Desired Qualifications

Earned Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work or related field. 

The Coordinator must complete a Youth Program Criminal Background Check through Michigan State University. • The Coordinator will work closely with the superiors to develop reports as assigned. • Develop and maintain connections with the local school district personnel to serve students. • The Coordinator may have to travel to in-state, regional and national conferences as they relate to the program. • Must possess a valid driver's license and able to operate university vehicles if necessary.

Special Instructions

This is a federally funded position.  The possibility to continue working in the position beyond 8/31/2022 will be based on future funding opportunities.
