Michigan State University Administrative Business Manager/S in East Lansing, Michigan

Position Summary

The Administrative Business Manager/S works with the department chairperson to set departmental goals and objectives and manages the department's relations with its joint administrative units, the Colleges of Natural Science and Engineering, the University, and other external entities.

This position has responsibilities for the following areas within CMSE:

1) Financial Management & Business Planning: Directs the department's financial planning and accounting practices, maintains financial management reporting and control systems, and manages the department budget

2) Support Staff Management: Oversees HR Administrator, Fiscal Officer, Academic Program Coordinator, and Undergraduate Program Coordinator. Supervises support staff to ensure a high-functioning business environment

3) Facilities Management: Assists with long-term planning, and ensures compliance with policies, procedures and regulations of the university, affiliated organizations, and external agencies

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in a business-related field or in a field which corresponds to the particular department of employment; eight or more years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in office procedures and administration, or in performing responsibilities related to the operational activities of the employing unit; experience in a supervisory role; experience with word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software and/or desktop publishing, web page software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Two or more years of experience in an academic unit as a business professional; unit/departmental budget experience and knowledge of Kuali Financial Systems; experience with shared networking platforms such as Microsoft SharePoint; familiarity with human resources policies and procedures, fiscal officer duties, graduate/undergraduate programs, contract and grant administration, and general MSU policies and procedures. Adept at working collaboratively and building rapport with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students across multiple departments and colleges; demonstrated commitment to MSU's core institutional values, including strengthening a climate of respect, caring, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Effective leadership and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
