Position Summary
Key Responsibilities:
Assist management with the preparation and maintenance of financial records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with university policies and procedures.
Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including account reconciliations and journal entries.
Monitor departmental budgets and expenditures, providing regular reports and analysis to management.
Prepare financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Process accounts payable transactions, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
Conduct variance analysis to identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
Support audits by gathering documentation and responding to inquiries.
Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial information flow.
Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Accounting; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in financial statement and report preparation, general ledger accounting and budgeting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
A team player whose strengths include problem solving, organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work on several projects simultaneously. Knowledge of and experience with budgeting principles, accounting concepts, and financial report development. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Working knowledge of MSU fiscal policies and academic hiring procedures.
