Meridian Behavioral Health Intern in East Grand Forks, Minnesota

Job purpose

A College Level Intern has the opportunity to learn best practices and industry standards in the development of programming, care and business development to advance the student’s academic, personal, and professional growth through exposure to a leader in mental health and substance abuse treatment, in markets both within multi-states. An Intern has the opportunity to receive real world, multidisciplinary treatment team exposure, in a variety of levels of care, across a variety of populations within the company, as well as participate in community/state organizations and conferences that support mental health and substance abuse treatment.

Duties and responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Orients to the Company’s mission, vision, values, and objectives and to promote best practice care across populations and service lines under the ownership umbrella of the organization.

  • Observes treatment planning, coordination, and care facilitation under supervision.

  • Exposure to the development of programming through remote and on-site attendance of meetings and care coordination activities, as well as through local and regional conferences.

  • Exposure to multi-level clinicians at existing sites who identify care/ service line opportunities and enlist other disciplinary assistance in meeting with prospects/referents in various geographical areas.

  • Under close supervision, participates in promotional activities for the organization, though the effective development and use of print media, promotional/marketing materials, and MBH brand websites and intranet.

  • Learns how to develop new service lines to take advantage of needs in the marketplace.

  • Ensures confidentiality regarding all organizational business, patients’ medical background and treatment issues per HIPAA guidelines.

  • Encouraged to remain actively involved in the Mental Health/ Chemical Health community and participates in public relations and educational activities.

  • Oriented to strategies to improve and sustain positive outcomes and patient satisfaction in all service areas.

  • Learns effective ways to communicate measureable outcomes supported by electronic Procentive reports.

  • Attends Treatment Team meetings as assigned.

  • Maintains a basic knowledge of developments and trends in Behavioral Health.

  • Adheres to and promotes MBH Mark of Excellence guidelines.

  • Promotes MBH’s Mission, Vision and Values.

  • Supports corporate initiatives and assists with other projects as assigned.

Qualifications Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:

  • Student in minimally an accredited Bachelor’s degree program in social sciences preferred.

  • Prior experience or knowledge relating to substance use and co-occurring disorders helpful

  • Basic sense of organization and planning, and ability to manage time effectively.

  • Ability and willingness to interact with and appreciate individuals from diverse cultural, social, economic and religious backgrounds and promote/support the principles of diversity throughout the organization.

  • Must demonstrate a general knowledge and understanding of all Meridian Behavioral Health’s policies and procedures and the ability to reference, implement and abide by them.

  • Must be able to travel via air and land transportation.

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.

  • Infrequent lifting of no more than 30 pounds.

  • Must be able to bend, twist and stretch in a manner conducive to an office setting and conducive to air and land travel.

  • Must have reliable method of independent transportation.

Physical Requirements

  • Hearing 100% Ability to hear staff, incoming calls, and callers

  • Vision 100% Ability to see computer screen and written charts to document outcomes and obtain data

  • Speaking 100% Ability to speak to staff and reviewers

  • Standing 6-8 hours per day
