Job Description

Grace is seeking aProduction Supervisorto join our East Chicago Plant Team. This role reports to the Operations Manager and ensures a safe working environment for all employees, plans the production workflow as directed, supervises the production employees (team of 20-25, 5-7 per shift), and ensure the goals of the business are met. This role is part of a four-person supervisor team that follows a rotating schedule across three shifts to provide 24/7 coverage.

T he East Chicago plant, a historic site in operation since 1892, manufactures Sodium Silicate and LUDOX® Colloidal Silica, serving diverse industries worldwide. With a dedicated union workforce of about 50 employees, the plant ensures high-quality production and global distribution.

The Production Supervisor Schedule: Blend of 8-hour and 12-hour rotating shifts including days and nights, holidays and weekends, and potential overtime.

Production Operator Shifts:

1st Shift 7:00AM – 3:00PM

2nd Shift 3:00PM – 11:00PM

3rd Shift 11:00PM – 7:00AM

Responsibilities

  • Conducts shift meetings with the operators to uphold a safe environment, review results of previous shift, set goals and expectations for next shift

  • Conducts regular area tours to ensure employee engagement, address performance and resolve issues, ensure cleanliness of areas, and perform safety walks / inspections

  • Develops shift reports and communicates performance / issues in area daily meetings

  • Manages daily work assignments and operator performance management

  • Coordinates production staffing with operations planning and in accordance with CBA

  • Inputs maintenance work notifications in SAP; reviews and authorizes required work permits

  • Inputs shift production results in SAP

  • Ensures equipment is ready for maintenance work

  • Inputs and supervises high priority maintenance work orders on off-shifts

  • Act as operations gatekeeper to ensure productive and efficient maintenance scheduling in coordination with maintenance planner

  • Manages team member disciplinary issues, assesses capabilities, and evaluates for necessary training

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials

  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.

  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.

  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 7 + years experience in an industrial manufacturing environment

  • Leadership or management experience

  • Hands on mechanical experience

  • Hands on troubleshooting equipment experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a chemical plant or refinery

  • Experience supervising in a union environment
