Indian Health Service Health Technician (Paramedic) in Eagle Butte, South Dakota

Summary This position serves as a Paramedic at the Cheyenne River Service Unit. The purpose of the position is to perform basic and advanced technical health care extender functions within the emergency medical arena in response to various accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illness. Position is subject to "Stand By" duty and will be required to rotate to all shifts. Responsibilities Conduct equipment and supply checks at start of each assigned shift. Vehicle safety and maintenance inspections will include ensuring vehicle has adequate fluid levels, vehicle is clean. Independently conducts a complete assessment, using knowledge of topographic anatomy, major body systems, emergency medicine techniques, and ability to sufficiently understand the legal considerations of emergency care. Provides appropriate basic treatment and advanced treatment at the scene and enroute and until definitive care is provided. Communicates orally and in writing with medical and ancillary personnel using skills in emergency communication techniques and the operation of radio equipment. *This announcement is Open Until Filled and will remain open until a sufficient applicant pool is obtained. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): General Schedule Qualifications Link: Health Aid and Technician Series 0640 (opm.gov) For GS-06 Level : Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks; examples include: Independently conducts a complete assessment, using knowledge of topographic anatomy, major body systems, emergency medicine techniques, ability to sufficiently understand the legal considerations of emergency care; Identifies and treats trauma/medical emergencies using basic and advanced knowledge and skill in emergency medicine techniques; Assesses the scene and recognizes the need for ancillary personnel and requests them as needed; triages the patient(s); Performs primary and secondary patient assessment. For GS-07 Level : Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks; examples include: Determines the nature, extent, and seriousness of patient's condition; Ensure equipment is functioning correctly per manufacturers specifications; Provides basic acute and non-acute patient care to maintain patient stability; Prepare written/electronic detailed and accurate patient care reports, including completing billing sheets. AND Selective Placement Factor for the GS-6/7: In addition to the above minimum requirements, the following certification is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Applicants must possess and provide proof from either a national certifying organization such as the National Registry Paramedic and/or a State Paramedic License and be eligible for licensure from the South Dakota Board of Osteopathic and Medical Examiners. Applicants who do not meet a selective placement factor are ineligible for further consideration. Time In Grade: Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education There are no education requirements. Additional Information Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. If an exemption is approved then wearing a face mask and regular testing for COVID-19 will be required. Your Human Resources Specialist will provide a list of documents acceptable as vaccination proof and instructions on how to submit your vaccination documentation or how to request a medical or religious exemption, if needed. Additional selection(s) of candidates may be possible within 240 days from the date the certificate of eligibles was issued for this announcement. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized. At least a One-year service agreement will be required. This position has promotion potential to the GS-07 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for the higher level duties, and "Regulatory/Administrative" approval.
