Hiring Range: $40,099.00 - $61,720.00

Hours: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Provide skilled, general labor to City construction, public works maintenance, and /or facilities projects. This is accomplished by performing skilled maintenance duties, operating equipment, and performing general labor as required. Other duties include performing a variety of manual tasks requiring special knowledge or skills acquired through on-the-job training or experience. May serve as a lead worker to an assigned crew engaged in manual, semi-skilled and skilled work.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Operating dump trucks

  • Performing vehicle and equipment pre/post trip inspections; monitoring and replenishing fluids; performing basic corrective repairs

  • Assisting with asphalt, concrete, stormwater and street cleaning operations and/or projects Operating pneumatic, air and electric drills

  • Assisting with Collection System TV inspections and flush truck operations

  • Performing manual labor on projects by assisting with set up and breakdown of TV and flushing equipment

  • Assisting with traffic control device installation and flagging operations for stationary and moving work zones

  • Assisting crews by handling materials and cleaning debris or hazards from worksites

  • Assisting with vehicle and equipment maintenance by inspecting; greasing; cleaning interior and exterior; checking fluid levels and filling as required

  • Signaling operators to facilitate alignment, movement and adjustment of machinery, equipment and materials

  • Transporting vehicles to/from repair facilities

  • Submitting neat and complete written and/or electronic records including times sheets, maintenance history report forms, pre/post trip inspection forms and other cost records as needed.

  • Checking and cleaning basins

  • Utilizing performance management system to document own work progress and performance

  • Performing other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.

  • Two or more years of maintenance experience operating tools and equipment used in construction .

  • Must have a valid, unrestricted, North Carolina driver's license "or" if you currently have another state driver's license, must be willing and able to obtain a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire.

Additional Preferred Skills

  • Valid NC Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement.

  • Familiar with rebuilding manhole/basins, placing structures and cleaning of pipes and culverts.

  • Experience working outdoors in various weather conditions.

  • Required to operate service truck and/or dump truck outfitted with plow based upon class of license possessed during winter weather operations.

  • Position designated as a Group 1, meaning it is critical to emergency operations and will report to work in spite of or because of an emergency or disaster event.

  • This position subject to on-call, recall and after-hours work and work during inclement weather.
