Durham Marriott Royal County are hiring an enthusiastic full time Barista. Become part of the unique story of the Durham Marriott Hotel Royal County which first opened its doors in 1815 and, to this day, sits proudly at the heart of this vibrant city.

We serve up sustainable, artisan coffee and laid-back vibes in Paddy & Scott’s coffee shop and our outdoor terrace is the perfect place to attract guests to spend time with us during the warm summer days and nights. The hotel is modern and has newly been refurbished with many with breath-taking views of the River Weir, Durham Castle and Cathedral, offering style, comfort and inspiration at every turn.

POSITION SUMMARY

  • Complete closing duties, including storing all reusable goods, breaking down goods, cleaning all equipment and areas, returning equipment to proper locations, locking refrigerators, restocking items, turning off lights, locking doors, and completing daily cleaning checklist.

  • Set up, stock, and maintain work areas. Inspect the cleanliness and presentation of all china, glass, and silver prior to use. Maintain cleanliness of work areas throughout the day, practicing clean-as-you-go procedures.

  • Take orders, record in MICROS system and prepare food and coffee beverages.

  • Ensure that appliances (e.g., coffee makers) are turned on/off at the appropriate times.

  • Bus coffee cart areas and tables.

  • Clean dishes, utensils, work areas, tables and equipment throughout the day.

  • Obtain change required for expected business level.

  • Count bank at end of shift, complete designated cashier reports, resolve any discrepancies, drop off receipts, and secure bank.

  • Provide excellent guest service by discovering all of our guests needs and acting on these needs promptly, effectively and with confidence.

  • Liaise and communicate effectively with all departments to ensure seamless transfer of information takes place.

  • To be fully conversant with all restaurant policies and procedures.

  • When fully competent, to work with the Manager to provide effective on job training and coaching of new staff to help develop an highly skilled and motivated team, committed to both Hotel and departmental goals.
