Seasonal/Temporary Work from 3/1/2025 - 11/30/2025
Perform manual labor to plant, cultivate, and harvest watermelons, cantaloupe, soybeans, rice, and peanuts. Workers will ride on transplanter to transplant watermelons and cantaloupe. Workers will walk in designated areas pre-selecting and removing mature watermelons from the vine and rolling watermelons according to supervisor\'s instructions. Select, harvest and load cantaloupe according to supervisor\'s instructions. The selection of mature melons to be harvested is based on appearance only considering the variances in shape, size, weight, and external color while also considering other factors such as location of vine, age of crop, number of times crop has been cut, growing conditions of crop, as well as variety of melons. A group of workers will walk through the field and pick up pre-selected watermelons and select and harvest cantaloupe by hand and load onto transport vehicles. During the loading process, workers will work in an assembly line, lifting selected melons, pitching the melons to another worker who catches the melons and pitches them to another worker or gently places them into a transport vehicle. Melons are unloaded and placed into bins for shipment or to be placed on shelves for retail. In the packing process, melons are unloaded from harvest transport vehicles where employees lift melons from harvest vehicle and pass to another employee who gently places the melons in designated areas.\ Plant and harvest rice. Rogue rice fields on foot when fields are under full flood. Remove off-type rice varieties and other plants from each field using hand tools to maintain rice seed purity, in accordance with applicable quality standards. Receive rice crop for drying and storage at drying facility. Clean and sanitize bins and worksite area. Plant and harvest soybeans. Load seed into hoppers and assist with mechanical soybean planting. Rogue soybean on foot. Remove off-type soybean varieties and other plants using hand tools. Install, operate, and maintain levee gates to regulate proper water depth. Plant and harvest peanuts. Shovel peanuts onto conveyor. Cover harvested peanuts with tarps. Carry supplies including bags and baling wire to the field.\ Use hand tools including, but not limited to shovels, hoes, knives, shears, clippers, loppers, and saws. Spread plastic or other ground covering. Clean plastic by hand from ground upon removal. Till soil. Stake/tie plants, trellis/prune plants, and set poles and wires for vine plants. Pick, cut, lift, or pull crops. Grade, size, and pack product. Install/maintain irrigation systems and water lines. Move and install irrigation pipes and equipment. Dig and maintain ditches. Install and remove levee gates. Perform ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, and other manual tasks. Lift, carry, and load/unload products or supplies. Assist with farm building/field maintenance and repairs. Repair fences. Apply pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and other crop protectants. Apply fertilizers, plant growth chemicals, conditioners, and other plant related treatments at the correct times depending on plant type, growth, climate and crop conditions. Count and check product. Discard any product with defects which render them unmarketable. Clean and maintain fields, including mowing, cutting, and weeding. Duties also include field and\ shed sanitation. All job activities are required to be done cautiously so as not to damage growing crops or product. Drive trucks or other vehicles to haul crops, supplies, tools, or farm workers on or off the farm. Workers are required to practice Good Agricultural Practices policies.\ Must wear assigned personal protective equipment when required. Must report for work daily wearing work c othing and boots or other durable footwear. Workers wearing clothing inappropriate for work will not be permitted to start work.
