This appointment begins August 19, 2024 and ends May 18, 2025. The successful candidate will be expected to fully contribute to the teaching and service responsibilities in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. The teaching load for this position is 10-14 weekly contact hours (three courses or equivalent) per semester. Depending on interest and qualifications, those selected could teach a mix of introductory and upper-level courses, and possibly astronomy or astrophysics courses. Qualifications Required Qualifications Ph.D. (assistant professor) or M.S. (instructor position) or equivalent experience such as advanced Ph.D. candidate status in Physics, Astronomy, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited university A minimum of one year of experience teaching (as a TA) a diverse group of students at the undergraduate level, including ability in oral and written communication. Preferred Qualifications Undergraduate-level teaching experience beyond conventional TA duties. Experience teaching in an active classroom setting. Ability to enthusiastically attract students to the field of physics including those students who traditionally have been underrepresented in the STEM fields Ability to work well in a collaborative environment. About the Department The Department of Physics and Astronomy offers B.S. and B.A. degrees in Physics, a BS in Engineering Physics, and a M.S. in Physics. The campus is located in northeastern Minnesota at the tip of Lake Superior, is the home of the Large Lakes Observatory, and is approximately 150 miles north of Minneapolis/St. Paul and also 150 miles south of the NOvA experiment Ash River Laboratory. The department has 14 full time faculty and research strengths in astrophysics, particle physics, condensed matter physics, and physical oceanography/limnology.
