The candidate will initially work with the Freshwater Ecosystem Research and Monitoring Lab (https://nrri.umn.edu/research/freshwater-ecosystemlab) on research projects related to understanding peatland, wetland and stream hydrology, particularly how vegetation influences hydrology and water budgets for various ecosystem types at watershed scales. Interactions between hydrology and nutrient cycling are also of interest. Individuals with experience assessing the success of restoration activities are desired. The successful candidate will start out at 20% time (one day per week) and may work from any approved, appropriate location, coming to NRRI to collaborate in-person several times per year. Within three years the successful candidate is expected to relocate to the vicinity of NRRI and increase their effort to 100%. As the successful candidate's own research program develops, they will lead projects and develop an extramurally funded research program of their own related to NRRI's mission and vision as it applies to aquatic resources. The successful candidate will initially be expected to work in collaboration with the Water Group and other research teams across the Institute to assist in management of existing projects around peatland restoration, and to conceptualize future related research projects. The successful candidate will be able to write proposals, run grant-funded research projects, and disseminate research results through journal publications and conference presentations. Duties: 75% Help fund and manage projects related to peatland restoration. 15% Write and submit proposals to extramural funding sources. 10% Analyze existing large datasets and write manuscripts. The hourly wage for this position is $50/hour. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Advanced degree in hydrology or hydrogeology or related area with substantial research and publication record Demonstrated experience writing and submitting research proposals. Evidence of strong oral communication skills in English (e.g., seminars and conference presentations). Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Solid knowledge of advanced statistical approaches for managing and analyzing large datasets. Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze and interpret data and publish results. Valid US driver's license and clean driving record.* Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in hydrology or hydrogeology or related area. Minimum of 5 years post-PhD research experience. More than five peer-reviewed publications as lead author. Lead PI on at least three extramurally funded research grants. Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, organize and lead research projects. Record of scientific achievement as indicated by publication record (peer-reviewed publications and/or technical reports or equivalent relative to industry) and external funding commensurate with time since PhD. Experience supervising / mentoring staff or students. Experience working with carbon flux measurements.
