What you will do

The primary responsibility of this role is as a part of the Manufacturing Engineering Team to take the lead associated with the implementation and continuous improvement of the internal Volvo manufacturing execution system. The Volvo Group Truck Organization is rapidly deploying Industry 4.0 technologies at its New River Valley plant and this is a key role as an enabler to switch to a more digital future. Understanding, implementing, and supporting new ways of working will be a critical responsibility. This role will be key, marrying the needs of manufacturing the trucks of the future with the use of key functions within our internal STRIPE System.

The ability to work in a fast-paced cross functional environment will be a success factor for the individual interested in developing a future with the Volvo Truck manufacturing organization.

Core Responsibilities:

• Effective implementation of new technology to support our team members in the manufacturing of trucks

• Use best practices and previous experience to ensure and promote employee engagement in new technologies

• Understand and train other manufacturing engineers on the use of technology on the shop floor.

• As part of the advanced manufacturing engineering team to evaluate technology and methods that could improve how we build our trucks

• Be the key user contact for issues coming from the use of technology and the resolution of the issues with the regional and global support teams

• Work with the business process development teams to ensure that the systems meet the needs of the factory. Collect, analyze, propose and help prioritize change requests to the business process developer

• Be a part of the Process and Solution key user global network representing the interests of the plant.

• Be the focal point for maintenance issues with technology and systems on the shop floor

• Coordination of root cause analysis for issues and concerns found as well as continuous improvement.

• Promote and secure common industrial process solutions for manufacturing engineering that are aligned with the global Volvo processes

• Work with the team to support the continuous improvement and cost activities initiated by the business teams.

• Support the technical competence development of the team to be ready for future technical and organizational requirements

• Identifies and implements methods, processes, and equipment using Lean Six Sigma methodology

• Uses lessons learned to develop systems and processes to improve effectiveness on the production line

• Implements and applies engineering standards and procedures in compliance with plant practices and policies

Minimum Education Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree Required in Engineering, Applied Sciences, or IT

• Preferred Master’s in Engineering, Applied Sciences, or IT

• Or equivalent experience in this field

Minimum Years of Experience Required:

• Three (3) years of related work experience required within a manufacturing environment, or related area.

Other Requirements:

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Access, SQL queries etc.
